Locations of youth groups supported directly by St. Peter Claver Parish throughout Toledo. Current active youth groups can be found in Blue Creek, San Antonio, San Pedro Colombia, San Jose, Silver Creek, and Jacintoville (not pictured). Distance between villages can pose challenges in providing consistent ministry, especially during the rainy season, so the priests and Jesuit Volunteers work closely with local leaders.
Mission Statement: Our youth ministry seeks to nurture a sense of belonging by igniting the spark of discipleship in young people by encountering Christ in all things through the lens of the Maya people. By empowering communal and personal growth we hope to create Christian leaders who love and serve others.
Above all we want to emphasize that we work together with the community and that the local people are the youth leaders and ministers in their villages, supported by the parish and the Jesuit Volunteers. Having local people in charge of the youth groups not only empowers the community, but also makes the ministry sustainable and allows it to continue after Jesuit Volunteers leave. These point people would then be in charge of leading a Sunday youth group, either during the Liturgy of the Word, or before or after Mass. Jesuit Volunteers help to coordinate large events and retreats, as well as providing monthly training sessions in Punta Gorda that bring together leaders from all the villages with active youth groups. and support them by being present when possible.

One of the largest challenges that we are faced with as a parish in ministering to the youth in Toledo's villages is the lack of resources. Many communities only have a couple of Bibles, and all of the youth groups want kid Bibles. If you have some extra space in your suitcase for some donations, here are some items that we can always use:
