Letter from the President:
Hello Friends!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the good Appalachian people that have suffered from hurricane Helene and the people of Florida as they prepare for hurricane Milton. “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
Our SALAD LUNCHEON was a huge success! We raised just over $4000 for our library!! Thank you to Ms Joanna and Ms Kathy for organizing it! Thank you to everyone that donated salads for the luncheon, the men who delivered our takeouts and everyone who came out to help serve lunch to the community! It really does take everyone working together to put on such a successful event raising money for our amazing library.
Dover’s trick-or-treating is October 26th 5-8pm at 1 Sentry Drive. I will be out of town at my daughter’s band competition. If you are interested in volunteering, even if just for one hour, please let us know.
As per our September meeting minutes I am including a copy of the proposed revised By-Laws with this newsletter. These will be discussed and voted on at the November meeting.
Our nominations committee has been assembled. Kathy Mauldin, Janey Marshall and Mary Ann Jordan have accepted the challenge. If you have any opinions on nominations or would like to be considered, please reach out to the nominating committee.
Lastly, our next meeting will be November 18, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Please note the date as our usual 2nd Monday of November is Veterans Day. Invite someone new. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Where’s the Lettuce?
The Friends of the Library held their annual Salad Luncheon fundraiser; however the lettuce was difficult to find as there were various homemade salads with chicken, ground beef, crab meat, ham, pastas, fruits and yes, healthy vegetables too! The event was once again a wonderful success as the weather cooperated and we had many prepared salad to-go orders from our friendly local businesses as well as our customers who came to eat in or just stop by to make their own salad selections to take home or back to work with them.
This year’s offerings included the usual taco salad, chicken salad, cornbread salad, fresh grape salad, broccoli salad, crab salad, three bean salad in addition to some dessert salads such as the famous pretzel salad, jello fruit salads and a variety of pasta salads. Without the donations of these very many delicious salads, the FOL would not experience the financial gain to continue its support of our local Stewart County Public Library.
The FOL is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help provide funds for the wonderful programs that the library tries to offer the children and adults of our county as well as the Imagination Library program which provides free books to all children ages 0-5. Some of these programs often are about science, animals or even a magic performance. Harry Potter has been known to come for a visit. Young children seem to really enjoy story time too.
Lastly, “LETTUCE” say a special thanks to Ft. Donelson Memorial United Methodist Church, CEMC, the S C Library staff, Stewart County Standard, Piggly Wiggly, and all the generous salad contributors.

GOVERNORS EARLY LITERACY FOUNDATION - http://www.governorsfoundation.org
Your help is needed in locating all Stewart County children from birth to age 5 to introduce them to the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, STILL LOOKING FOR ELIGIBLE CHILDREN!! 20% of the children in this age group are still not signed up!
Once a child is signed up, each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in the child's name directly to their home. The registered children can look forward to new and exciting reading adventures from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. There are currently 511 Stewart County children registered and receiving books but there are many more yet to locate and register. 2,223 have graduated from the program in Stewart County. Parents may also register their children online at http://www.governorsfoundation.org. If the child moves, it is vital that parents have the child's address changed in order to continue receiving the books.
Would you like to help this wonderful program? As little as $12 will pay for books for one child, for an entire year! Donations can be made out to Stewart County Friends of the Public Library, noting “Imagination Library” in the memo line, and mailed or delivered to the Stewart County Public Library, 102 Natcor Drive, Dover TN 37058. Stewart County Friends of the Public Library is a 501(c))(3) charitable organization and a partner agency of the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region. Donations are tax- deductible.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, it is the only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead
We, as a group, make a positive change in the lives of Stewart County children every time we sign-up another child for Imagination Library, pass on information regarding I.L. to someone else, or otherwise contribute to this positive program.
