The intention of this device is to dampen the effects of vibrations or periodic motions on video capture on any camera mounted to the platform.
Primary components:
-Voice coil motor
-Gimbal mount
-Rate gyro along
-DSPIC microcontrollers
-Digital to Analog converters
Shown here is a video of the prototype stabilizing an impulse. The shorter rod used in this prototype imposed a bifurcation point which was later resolved by adding a longer rod.
A bifurcation point existed in the first prototype. This was later corrected with the addition of a longer and stiffer rod.
The electronics included:
- Digital to Analog Converter
- Pic Micro
- Power Amplifier
- Rate Gyro
Matt Zieleman constructed these boards.
CAD prototype2. This prototype suggests the use of a voice coil motor instead of a rotary motor.

The slider mechanism was built; though, showed significant play and was removed from the project.
