Designed and built production quality power distribution units for heavy-lift drones. The ratio of conductivity to density is higher for aluminum than it is for copper; thus, this device was designed to use aluminum with gold plated contacts.
Comparison to the leading product available on the market.
Alodine was tested prior to gold plating the aluminum. Contact resistance was measured to be unacceptably high.
A high current test stand was put together. Current was measured using a current clamp as well as a milliohm shunt resistor. A car battery was shorted across the device in series with a variable resistor made from a 3/16" stainless rod and sliding contact.
Low temperature rises across the device were observed for currents up to 800A for 10 seconds.
