A tool for hand tapping very small threads while reducing the risk of breaking taps has been created. The tool also ensures the tap is positioned perpendicular to the surface.
The tap wrench aligns the tap normal to the surface while preventing bending of the tap, a major cause for breakage of small taps. This is achieved with a sliding rod mounted at the top of the tool which can be supported by the chuck on a drill press or milling machine.
Another feature this tap wrench offers is torque limiting as the tap may be optionally gripped on the round surface of the tap shank. This allows the tap to slip in the tap wrench once an adjustable torque threshold is reached.
Another method to limit torque is to remove the handle while gripping the rectangular portion of the tap.
Stress free tapping of 0-80.
