I designed, prototyped and tested a nanosatellite payload to be lauched.
The payload is an antenna meant to calibrate CHIME's ground based radio telescopes.
Shown above is the first physical prototype for a low frequency, broadband, planar antenna. For extensive details please see:
Lightweight (< 500g)
Small (max vol. < 10x10x30cm)
Cheap ($500 range)
Broadband (500 – 800MHz)
Omni-directional
Non-Deployable or Easily Deployed
Simulations were carried out using CST Microwave Studio while experiments were carried out in an anechoic chamber using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The designed antenna satisfies the design specifications, radiating with sufficient efficiency between 475-775MHz.
