Excerpt of Terran Republic data consult at Berkley University, Xenobiology Department. Limited invitations.
"Students, observers, and remotes, welcome to our event. Today as you are all aware, we will be reviewing the first detailed scans and images of the latest intelligent species we've encountered.
Now obviously, this species was originally described to us by Fulgar records which all present are well versed in, but of course, the Fulgar neglected to offer any physical depictions of these "Uk-Arr-Ros".
Bring up the first image...
"Now, as you can see from this profile, we have a bipedal specimen with two arms, two legs, nothing surprising. But do note the extra joints compared to ourselves... and of course the overall posture is hunched over, more gorilla like than a human. It's also important to note that the creature does possess a short tail, albeit underdeveloped and I suspect vestigial. We'll discuss the specific features soon, but let me note the scale involved here.
Overlay please...
As you can see, the Ukaros, a male we believe... in a relaxed posture, is at least three meters in height, and the overall weight being an estimated one hundred forty kilograms. This makes the Ukaros one of the larger intelligent species yet encountered... but make no mistake from the data we've acquired we also know that the Ukaros is wiry, agile, and speedy... a result of highly efficient and dense musculature and metabolism.

Here we see a severed arm in greater relief. The image itself being something of a relic, being an original scan from the first dissections of captured Ukaros by the Tothk and their first encounters with the Ukaros.
Note the mottled skin, in this picture it's quite grey, and we're told coloration varies from almost blue to stark white. The texture is akin to that of leather, like that of a walrus or seal, which would make sense given the Ukaros' homeworld is frigid by any standard.
Now what is interesting here is the dewclaw, which is very high up on the creature's ulna, practically just below the elbow... and we can see, retractable. The claws themselves are serrated, almost hooked, and measure about 20cm in length... an impressive natural weapon.
We believe that originally the Ukaros would potentially leap into the sides or back of any large prey and cut deep with these claws and use them to hang on... akin to a dangerously armed bull rider... exhausting the prey to death.
Moving on...
Here we have what we are all eager for... a closeup of a living Ukaros and their fabulously predatory head. At first glance you might be forgiven for thinking this was the face of some prehistoric wolf. Of course upon closer inspection we quickly notice the large sabertooth teeth, the upturned, almost bat-like nose on a elongated muzzle... and then the ears are large and pointed, more akin to a pharoah hound than any wolf.
All the standard sensory organs are of course present, nose, ears, eyes, a tongue... but notice the numerous pits along the snout leading under the eyes... these are heat sensors akin to that of a Terran Rattlesnake, but we believe these to be singificantly more advanced. I'm sure being able to sense a camp fire from a kilometer or two was a valuable skill for ancient Ukarosian hunters!
Also pay attention to the neck, it's rather muscular and somewhat -S- shaped, allowing for it to dart forward and snap... another adaptation for hunting perhaps.
Now of course we have much more to discuss, such as details on reproduction, brain functions, organ redundancy... but we will be taking a ten minute recess for discussion and refreshment. I will leave you with this thought though... what we are seeing here today is a rare example of a large, obligate carnivore evolving sapience... we must wonder why this would be the case, as nearly every other example of sapience has been of herbivorous or omnivorous nature.
Thank you, we'll be back soon.
