Summary: It’s the night before 1945 and Honolulu is celebrating like flipping the calendar is all it’ll take to end this thing and send everybody home. Makes for one hell of a party. But it’s been a long war, getting longer, and Dean Winchester stopped pinning his hopes on anything a long time ago. Then, as the clock ticks down to the new year, he finds himself in the company of a grounded fighter pilot. All of the sudden, maybe there’s something to look forward to.
This was a difficult review to write because all I wanted to say was - Go, Go NOW and read this! It has been a long time since a fic has captured me that way. The author engaged my mind by recreating the final year of WWII in the Pacific Theatre. She captured my curiosity by seeing how a flyboy and a submariner in the mid-40s would navigate the difficult waters of expressing sexual interest. And, she captured my heart in the honesty, fear, anxiety and horror that goes hand-in-hand with war. I admit, I checked the tags and didn’t see the dreaded MCD, but that didn’t protect my lip when I nearly chewed through it as the depth charges were exploding, and it didn’t protect my heart or stop the tears.
Like many AUs the characterizations of Dean and Cas have been tweaked a bit from canon to better tell this story. This worked for me and when it was done, I wanted more. I went looking for other works by this author and discovered that this was a first fic. This is truly what DCBB is all about - a new author, supported by betas, working hand-in-hand with an artist to share a story. Ya know - ignore all this and just Go - Go read this fic now.

If Castiel doesn't find a mate soon, the council will assign him one. And Dean's not about to let that happen. Dean/Castiel slash
A dark, twisted tale. Two boys on another lonely, thankless mission, this time to stop Sam's terrible nightmare of fascism and death and orange horror from coming true.
Keep Your Distance Far Away From Me by shilohslaughter ~ man obsessed is the most dangerous kind. Set pre-Victorian, Dean has been lucky enough to inherit his father's homestead, which leaves him with all the time in the world to watch Blue Eyes and plan the man's inevitable capture; he'll look so pretty crying for Dean. It's a shame Dean doesn't know who - or what - he's up against.
