Starving Faithful by anothersea (PDF) ~ Guh. I actually don't have anything coherent to say about this. But it was a wild ride! Any transgression upon Heaven must be returned tenfold.
Love is a gun by Likerealpeopledo (PDF) ~ Dean and Cas' voices are spot on. They encounter a monster that they've never seen before. In a world where Dean can't Dean and Cas can't Cas, how are they supposed to keep themselves together without falling apart?
the taste of gravel in the mouth by deathbanjo (PDF) ~ Canon divergent. Excellent Dean voice. Amazing. This is what Cas gave up Heaven for: greasy diner food, shitty motel rooms with even shittier cable, long car rides spent in complete silence except for the same six tapes playing over and over again, and a burnt-out husk of a man who can barely hold a conversation anymore.
The Doppelganger Effect by MalMuses (PDF) ~ Dean had been having a pretty great week, all in all. There had been that case up in Dodge City where he’d worn a cowboy hat, he'd made homemade burgers for dinner, and best of all? Cas was back from the Empty. Alive, unharmed and in the bunker. Things were back to normal. Then they showed up to ruin things—Dean and Cas, Version 2.0. They're not just different, they're happy. Not to mention very... coupley. Thrown from their own world with magic unheard of since Purgatory, the doppelgangers need Team Free Will’s help—or is it Dean and Cas that need theirs?
an emptying by museaway (PDF) ~ rating Mature ~ Eight weeks ago, a man found himself on the front porch of a house he'd never seen. With no idea who he was or how he'd gotten there, he could only accept what the police told him: His name was James Novak, and he'd been missing for years. This is so so well written you should just read it for the writing alone.
a turn of the earth by mishcollin (PDF) ~ rating Mature but it should have been Explicit. ~ Dean’s your typical half-orphaned, monster-killing 22-year-old until a trenchcoated stranger crashes into his back windshield one September night, claiming he’s an angel that knows him from the future and that he’s on the run.
The Melting Verse by strangeandcharm (PDF) ~ This story is not on A03. It was written in 2008 so I'd call it "fresh" it is not influenced (and muddied) by the stories that we are flooded with now. There is rape in it (even though that's not tagged) so if that bothers you then don't read it. This story is so good and so original. It take place in season 4. So Cas is still 'other'. It started out as a one shot and evolved into something amazing. It interweaves itself into the Lilith story line with the Seals and has major Castiel whump and minor Dean whump.
Wait, When Did You Learn Spanish? by DarknessBound (PDF) Cas thinks it's absolutely fucking ridiculous that Dean couldn't stay alive for more than five minutes, so he drags his ass back to Earth. Also, he's pretty done with Sam Winchester as a whole person. My Comment: Absolutely priceless. Just when I thought it couldn't get better Miracle bit a bronly. (read 11/2020)
Definitely Not Junkless by FagurFiskur (PDF) Synopsis: “You’re not junkless, are you?” From the corner of his eye, Dean can see Cas turning to give him a strange look. “What?” “Junkless,” Dean repeats. He rubs his palms on his thighs; they’re already sweating and he’s barely a few words into this conversation. What the hell is he doing? “Like Alan Rickman in Dogma?” My Comment: Wow this was really unique. I love Cas calling Dean out more than once. I actually wrote more than that but it would be spoilers. (read 7/2018)
Misha's Not in Vancouver Anymore by Elizabeth1985 (PDF) (Mature) Synopsis: An accident on set results in Misha ending up in the SPN!Verse and stuck with a confused and irritated Dean Winchester. Dean, Sam, and Castiel have to work together to find a way to send him back. Misha's cheekiness brings to light the things that Dean only ever thinks about in the space between waking and dreaming. My Comment: Amazing and so hot! (read 7/2017)
Whisper a Little by Sass_Master (PDF) (it's marked Explicit but I'd probably call it Mature) (Pretty sure this is cannon, it's been a while since I've read it.) Synopsis: Cas doesn’t finish his thought, just smiles darkly to himself, eyeing Dean’s mouth, thumb swiping across Dean’s lower lip. “Sometimes all I can think about is getting you alone.” Dean feels his heartbeat pick up at the way Cas’s voice dips lower, his tone not so light and casual anymore. That look is in Cas’s eyes right now, his intentions clearly written on his face. “Got me alone right now,” Dean says slyly, a smirk forming. He’s hoping to coax Cas into action because the low thrum of arousal he’s been ignoring is sparking to life, and the heat in Cas’s words is definitely promising. “I do, don’t I..?” My Comment: HOT! (read 8/2017)
Along My Restless Palms by Sass_Master (PDF) Synopsis: Ever since Cas started staying in the bunker, Dean’s been having these crazy dreams—dreams that feature him and Cas in absurd, tawdry scenarios like something out of a filthy paperback. Dean chalks it up to exhaustion, or some monster messing with his head, anything to ignore the real cause: Cas in his personal space, in various states of undress, and, wow, way more muscular than Dean would’ve expected. My Comment: Nothing, I was shit at leaving comments back then. Sigh. But I'm sure it was super hot. (read 8/2017)
The Chronicles of Dean's Bisexuality by mnwood (PDF) Synopsis: An exploration of what Supernatural would've been like if Dean Winchester was canonically bisexual from the beginning. MY Comment: lovely piece (read 6/2017)
Crossing Lines by sometimeswelose (PDF) Synopsis: Two Deans, one Cas - it's not as sexy as it sounds Or An ethics lesson from Hell Or The one where Dean from the past meets Dean in the present. They're not sure they like each other very much. My Comment: This was really beautiful. I felt like everyone was completely in character, including old Dean. I agree that as the years went on, in the show, he became more abusive, especially to Cas. Yes Dean's trauma was also dog piling him, but abusing other people as a coping mechanism is never ok. I loved the way you described Cas' complete and truly unconditional love for Dean. It felt perfectly right, and how it would actuality be if it were allowed to be canon in the show. (read 8/2021) Footnote: there's not much Explicit content in this. I would consider most of the sex scenes to be "Mature".
You want it darker? by sometimeswelose (PDF) Continuation of Crossing Lines (above). It's also a fix-it for 15x19. Summery: Team Free Will goes to Miami for hot gay shit. Everyone breaks the narrative and finds some goddamn peace. My Comment: "No one should have to die because of the way they love." ~ amen This was a spectacular story. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Good One's Gonna Be by remmyme (PDF) Summary: Castiel Novak receives a rather alarming text message from an unknown number, and what started as a simple misdial quickly turns into the greatest friendship Castiel has ever known. But Dean has many secrets, dangerous truths about the life he lives, and would like to tell Castiel exactly none of them. (I'd actually classify this as Canon Adjacent.) My Comment: That was awesome! [I don't really remember this fic but I did read it. I think Dean mistakenly texts Cas who is some kind of professor? And maybe he ends up helping them on a case?] Anyway, I read this back in (10/2017)
Pieces of Dean by Ahaviel (PDF) Summary: When Dean takes the brunt of a spell intended to evict Castiel from his vessel, his mind fractures and it falls to Cas and Sam to put him back together—not knowing how many pieces of Dean there are, or which part will come out next. Will it be the innocent child who remembers that angels are watching over him? The Hell-tortured adult who believes he’s not worthy of rescue? The angry hunter who has been betrayed one too many times? Or the lover who no longer has a reason to hold back? My Comment: I don't think I left a comment, can't find it. (read 12/2021)
I CARRY YOUR HEART (I CARRY IT IN MY HEART) by unicornpoe (PDF) Summary: “Take me,” Dean says. He doesn’t have to think about it. “Take me as your vessel, Cas.”or: Cas is cursed into an endless sleep. Dean offers himself up as his vessel while they try to break it. My Comment: Everybody in character. Amazing! Writing style impeccable. What a lovely story. I'm so glad I found it. (read 11/2023)
