The project team from Aveiro, Portugal, developed and implemented a more collaborative way of working with teachers and schools, using a wide range of expertise available in the city.
The team knew that achieving compromise and commitment between teachers and the municipality, university and other professional stakeholders was going to be a challenge - the complexity of social behaviour and varied social backgrounds being a key factor in success or failure of young people at school.
They organised training and peer-exchange sessions and brought people together to collaborate on real cases. This approach set the tone for the project and facilitated meetings to help the school teams work with other professionals. Gradually, this changed behaviour and increased the ability of schools to support students and their families.
Aveiro’s story is one of joint delivery - a virtual project team, working closely together to help young people stay in education.
