Work to ensure young people stay in education and training in the first place - “staying in” versus “getting back into” the system. Set up mechanisms in schools to spot emerging risk factors and analyse available data to proactively identify individuals or areas for intervention. Actively target the risk factors and bring the right combination of services together to intervene. Look for a range of alternatives and create complementary learning opportunities, in and out of the classroom. Choose the correct intervention package and consider the whole person’s needs and development.
