Safety is SUPER IMPORTANT and applies to EVERYONE. Focusing on safety makes sure everyone has a great time at SOR during camps.
Take everyone's safety seriously, including your own. Following the essentials below will help keep things in check.
Stick Together:
Once camp starts, stay inside the school. If you have to go outside, you must have permission from the Camp or Music Director. NEVER leave the building without notifying a Director.
If you're out and about, stay in groups of 3 and never leave anyone behind. Not even as a joke.
Hands Off:
No rough play or inappropriate touching EVER. High fives and fist-bumps are okay, but anything more is not necessary. If someone makes you uncomfortable (this includes campers), tell a Director IMMEDIATELY.
Respect Others' Stuff:
Don't touch or use anything that doesn't belong to you. Pretty basic. Instruments, equipment, and school property should be treated with extra care. Lead by example and follow the rules yourself.
Campers may break or damage something, but keep in mind they're also learning the ropes a bit. Teach them how to use things the right way in advance. If a camper is purposely destroying something, tell a Director.
Food & Allergies:
When it comes to this, never joke or mess around with people's food or diet. You could severely harm someone by messing with their food or taunting them about any dietary restrictions. Any problems or joking around with this WILL get you/any camper sent home immediately.
Keep it Clean:
Clean up after yourself and help campers do the same. This includes food mess, trash, and maintaining a respectful environment overall.
Follow the universal rule that applies to all camp sites: "Leave it better than you found it."
Make Safety Part of Lessons:
Teach campers how to handle gear and instruments safely. Discuss things like sharp guitar strings, adjusting drum kits carefully, and unplugging equipment properly.
EVERYONE IN THE BUILDING MUST USE HEARING PROTECTION.
Report Concerns:
If you're unsure about something or notice any unsafe issues, notify a Director or manager immediately. Your safety and everyone's fun are of the utmost importance.
