Before you look at job titles below, let's get extra clear about who to listen to, and then what order you should listen to them in. Let's look at what's known as an "org chart" which shows who's in charge of what areas. Refer to the picture below:
Bellhops talk to the campers first once they're inside. You are directing/showing them where to put their things (lunches, guitar cases, bags, personals etc) and bringing them to the correct room based on their assigned camp (Performance, R101, Rookies). Should work closely with the concierge. Multiple bellhops are ideal to keep things flowing while adults are talking to each other.
Interns who specifically make sure ALL food trash is thrown away and no food or liquid messes are left from the group during a break or lunch. Remember-- NO FOOD OR DRINK ANYWHERE THERE'S CARPET.
You receive the campers in the morning (in rehearsal rooms) and get to know them right away. May be put in charge of attendance or initial instrument assignments at times.
Engage with ice-breakers or general intro questions (favorite band or food or what they're looking forward to). Explain you're glad they're trying this out and that you yourself are pumped. Keep in mind very nervous kids. Typically the Camp Director will be in the room as well, explaining the plan.
An intern(s) who stands at the door/outside to greet campers & parents and point them in the right direction to get nametags and let them know how the flow works inside. Provide a happy "HELLO! WELCOME TO SCHOOL OF ROCK!" to everyone as you see them, and explain where the SM and MD are to help answer questions.
Cleans up the stage as it's being built, takes cases and covers (aka "deads") and keeps areas clear while PA is being built and routed by Camp Director. Is the ears for the mix and volume levels during the show as directed by Camp Director.
Interns with the ideas for games, or just in charge of being the fun one and the social glue during groups and/or down time.
These Interns are designated to run errands, hop between camps to help supply materials (paper, markers, etc) or to fetch gear/equipment on behalf of a Director, Lead, or other Intern.
A hand is literally anyone who's available to help who isn't currently busy. "I need a hand !" "Can I get a hand here ?"
Especially if the Studio Manager or Music Director say one of these things, then you should offer your help right away. If you are in the middle of a task or something else, let the person know you can help once you're done, and then let another intern/Director know that person needs a "hand" while you complete the task that was given to you. Circle back and see if that person still needs your help as soon as you're available. This should all be common sense, we hope!
Leads are designated by Camp/Music Directors and pass along the plans or delegate duties freely to the other interns (ex: cleaning jobs). Whatever the Camp Director's needs are, the Lead will pass it along. NOTE: This does not mean favoritism or that they're better than anyone, it's simply a necessary role. The Lead can be decided for the week or by the day. Everyone has a chance to prove themselves worthy of this title regardless of any other roles you have.
Interns in charge of taking photos and videos to post in the intern's Band group for upload by the Studio Manager later in the day.
Any intern at any time who is teaching during lessons & rehearsals and keeping everyone's musical experiences positive while campers are learning throughout the week
Keeping rooms in working order, resetting the lesson rooms for teachers by 3pm, checking that gear isn't left powered on or broken, putting drums back, all the general moving of stuff back to where it was at the end of the day.
Anyone lifting, loading, and/or transporting gear in or out of the school/venue for the purpose of performing or rebuilding for the teaching day.
These are the interns who are keeping an especially strong eye out for safety, both in and outside the building. Keeping head counts, watching campers cross streets or bringing up the rear, looking for suspicious activity from non-SOR people and making reports to the Camp/Music Director.
End of day cleaning: specific to work needing cleaning solutions, towels, wet surfaces, vaccuuming, dusting, etc.
Interns who make sure the talent ready, sticking with their band & not wandering off, and getting talent on deck for the next song. Rallying the bands to get hyped before they go on stage and making sure kids don't just walk off away from the stage.
Interns designated to receive the gear from roadies and immediately build the stage, or strike the stage (tear down) in order to give to roadies quickly. Checks power on all amps and electronics to make sure there's power.
Interns who line check/level check/sound check (typically the Intern Band who's opening the show) or are performing with the campers.
Similar to safety patrol, however more with the purpose of getting kids back into the main pack if they wander a bit or are having a difficult moment.
