Sonic supposed there were worse ways to die.
One last look at the beautiful planet he loved so much, knowing he’d saved it.
It was sad, of course. Nobody’s happy to die, are they?
Sonic wondered if they’d throw a party in his honour.
Sonic Day they could call it.
Mind, it was a Tuesday. Tuesday was a weird day to celebrate things, birthdays not included. Usually these sorts of things happened on Mondays or on weekends.
Not that it would make much difference to Sonic.
Oh well.
Mobius was a wonderful place to live. And Sonic was so glad to have called it his home.
He thought of the wonderful friends he’d made.
He thought of Jules and Bernadette.
He thought of Sally.
He thought of Tails. The kid was probably going to be hit pretty badly by this. Sonic could see him now, piloting the Tornado…
No, wait—
Sonic could see him now! Piloting the Tornado!
Tails was piloting the Tornado right now! And Sonic could quite literally see him!
That brilliant, wonderful fox!
The bi-plane grew closer in the distance. Sonic felt an amazing sense of pride in his friend. He was overcome with joy. He didn’t notice he’d changed colours. The power of the Chaos Emeralds works in ways beyond most mortals’ comprehension. Super Sonic was the embodiment of all the darkest, most uncontrollable parts of Sonic’s psyche. But now he’d transformed again, keeping his personality and mind- hence why he hadn’t noticed. But he felt very calm, completely at peace. It would be some time before this form was named but it represented the true power Sonic could tap into.
Not that he would know- as Tails drew closer, the energy faded and Sonic returned to normal. Landing perfectly atop the wing of the bi-plane, Sonic smiled down at his friend.
“Tails, little buddy… I could kiss you!”
“Don’t tell Sally, she’ll get jealous,” Tails quipped.
Sonic raised an eyebrow with a smirk, “I’m going to let that one slide because you just saved my life”
“Is Doctor Robotnik done for this time, Sonic?”
Sonic paused, “Nobody could have survived that explosion, Tails”
“That’s what I thought”
Sonic looked out across the horizon. A world without Robotnik. It should be a cause for celebration. But it meant Kintobor was lost forever too.
“I suppose there’ll be some big party to celebrate this victory over Robotnik,” Sonic sighed.
“Well… not if you don’t want, Sonic”
Sonic raised an eyebrow, not letting on how conflicted he felt, “Are you kidding me? Of course I do!”
