Answer 1: We need an efficient system of transport to take people from one place to another. Besides this transport is also used to take raw materials to the factories and finished goods to markets all over the world.

Answer 2: Waterways are the cheapest mode of transport. This is because unlike roads and railways, waterways require no roads or tracks. Only ports are needed for loading and unloading goods.

Answer 3: The Suez Canal joins the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. This has enabled ships to go from Asia to Europe easily, without going around the southern tip of Africa.

Answer 4: To send or receive an email we need a device such as a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet or a smartphone, an email account, and an Internet connection.

Answer 5: Newspapers and magazines make us aware about the developments in different parts of our country and around the world.

Question: Television and radio are more popular than newspapers and magazines. Why?

Answer: Television is an audio-visual medium which uses both sound and sight to impart knowledge and provide entertainment. Radio is an audio medium which entertains as well as educates people. Both television and radio have the ability to reach people quickly and effectively, and are hence more popular than newspapers and magazines.
