Question 1: What is the difference between weather and climate?
Answer 1: Weather is the day-to-day conditions of the air at a particular place. On the other hand, climate is the pattern of weather conditions of a place over a very long period of time, for about 35-40 years.
Question 2: What role do the western disturbances play?
Answer 2: strong winds from the west that blow over India in winter are known as western disturbances. They cause light rainfall in the plains and snowfall in the northern mountains. This results in very cold weather and fog.
Question 3: How are monsoon winds useful?
Answer 3: The monsoon winds blow from the Arabian sea and the Bay of Bengal towards the land. While passing through the seas they pick up a lot of moisture. This moisture causes rainfall in most parts of India.
Question 4: Which state in India receives the highest rainfall? Which state receives the lowest rainfall?
Answer 4: In India, Meghalaya receives the highest rainfall.
Rajasthan receives the lowest rainfall.

Answer: During summer, the cool breeze from the sea keeps the coastal areas cool. Chennai is located on the coast. Therefore, the cool breeze from the Bay of Bengal keeps Chennai cool during summer.
