Community Outreach

Community Outreach describes how NEA Student Program members engage the people and environment around them; we impact our communities – locally and globally – and value the meaningfulness of such involvement. Our members learn about communicating with parents, experience partnering with local businesses, and find grant support through Chamber of Commerce consortiums. We design and implement projects as diverse as after-school tutoring programs, Harry Potter learning carnivals, and Senior Citizen dances. New teachers who are NEA Student Program Alumni are more successful in helping their students achieve because they know how reaching out to the community provides them access to material and human resources.

SNEA Loves Books '20

Due to SNEA's partnership with Nemours Children's Hospital, our members and PEDS Academy interns host events with free book giveaways, activities, and reading to patients. This event was all about LOVE and puppies.

@pedsacademy is now collaborating with READing Paws to help patients @Nemours Children’s Hospital practice their reading skills and foster a love for reading.

SNEA volunteers every year at Tuskawilla's Literacy Night – this year we got the chance to experience the wonderful opportunities TWMS has to offer, guide incoming parents and students around the school, and network with current teachers.

1/16/2019 | SNEA was invited to both the Mim's Elementary and Brevard District science fair. We worked with zoologists and NASA engineers to award prizes to district winners.

Members set up, run the register, sell books and shirts, and close up each day. It's a great responsibility to run the book fair and we love supporting Scholastic!

SNEA Literacy Escape Room '19

UCF "EDUCATION DAY"

11/6/2019 UCF hosted 3,600+ kids for a fun day of watching a UCF woman's basketball game and walking around activity stations during each quarter. SNEA created an escape room activity booth!

The groups needed to solve a series of puzzles in order to unlock a box and reveal a location. Numbers, colors, locks, puzzle pieces, popsicle sticks, maps, and invisible ink were used to create an interactive escape room for grades 3-5.

UCF's Read for the Record '19

11/7/2019 | Every year, SNEA members help host UCF's annual Read for the Record Event. This year, student volunteers read "Thank you, Omu" to the kids, walked them through interactive stations, and taught important literacy skills all while having fun!
