What's next for the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards?
We facilitated a full-day of immersive professional learning experiences focused on moving beyond awareness and into meaningful, sustainable integration across all content areas.
The day began with a high-impact morning session facilitated by PBLWorks, where participants will explore Gold Standard Project-Based Learning. Educators will design authentic, student-centered learning experiences that naturally embed CS/DF skills while supporting deeper learning aligned to NY Inspires and the NYS Portrait of a Graduate.
The afternoon was comprised of collaborative breakout sessions designed to extend and apply the morning learning. Sessions will focused on integrating CS/DF standards across disciplines, and designing performance-based assessments connected to real-world application and Portrait of a Graduate competencies.
Throughout the day, participants:
Connect CS/DF standards to NY Inspires and Portrait of a Graduate competencies such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and innovation
Experience high-quality PBL design with a focus on authenticity, inquiry, and student voice
Apply learning in collaborative breakout sessions tailored to K-12 classrooms and leadership contexts
Design interdisciplinary learning experiences integrating CS/DF into core content areas
Explore AI and digital tools that support engaging, standards-aligned PBL experiences
Collaborate with peers to develop classroom-ready resources and implementation ideas
This experience included Teachers, librarians, instructional coaches, and school leaders.
Discover how authentic, project-based learning can deepen student engagement while meaningfully integrating the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency (CS/DF) Standards and the New York State Portrait of a Graduate competencies. In this interactive workshop, educators will explore how thoughtfully designed PBL experiences can move beyond isolated technology activities to create purposeful, student-centered learning connected to real-world challenges and future-ready skills.

Participants will examine sample learning experiences through the lenses of Project-Based Learning, the NYS CS/DF Standards, and the Portrait of a Graduate to identify strategies that strengthen authenticity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and digital fluency across content areas. Educators will then apply these ideas directly to their own instruction by selecting a current lesson or unit and using a guided planning template to redesign or enhance it with meaningful real-world context, intentional competency development, and aligned CS/DF learning opportunities.
Through collaborative discussion and peer feedback, participants will leave with practical strategies for embedding Digital Literacy, Impacts of Computing, and Computational Thinking into everyday instruction while supporting the goals of NY Inspires and deeper learning initiatives.
Participants will leave with:
Practical strategies for embedding CS/DF standards into existing instruction
Connections between PBL, NY Inspires, and the Portrait of a Graduate
A redesigned lesson or unit enhanced with authentic, real-world learning opportunities
A completed 1-page PBL Enhancement Snapshot with identified POG competencies and CS/DF alignment ready for classroom implementation

This engaging professional learning session explores how student voice, choice, and purpose can increase engagement, deepen learning, and foster greater ownership of the learning process. Participants will examine how learner-centered instructional practices support the New York State Portrait of a Graduate competencies-particularly innovator and communicator-while reinforcing NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency (CS/DF) Standards connected to digital communication, collaboration, and creative technology use.
Educators will explore why meaningful and relevant learning experiences are essential to student engagement and how they align with the goals of NY Inspires and future-ready learning environments. Through hands-on activities and collaborative discussion, participants will investigate practical strategies such as choice boards, varied product options, and student-led roles that can be immediately implemented across grade levels and content areas.
During the session, educators will redesign an existing learning task to intentionally incorporate student voice and choice, a purposeful audience or outcome, and a CS/DF-aligned digital component. Participants will leave with a student-facing task that promotes engagement, creativity, communication, and authentic learning experiences while strengthening student ownership and agency.

This leadership-focused professional learning session is designed for administrators, instructional leaders, and coaches seeking to create sustainable, system-level implementation of future-ready instructional practices. Participants will explore what aligned instruction looks like when the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency (CS/DF) Standards, Project Based Learning (PBL), NY Inspires initiatives, and the New York State Portrait of a Graduate (POG) work together to support deeper learning and student success.
Through guided reflection and collaborative discussion, leaders will examine why coherent and aligned instructional systems are essential for ensuring consistency, long-term impact, and equitable student experiences across classrooms and grade levels. Participants will analyze current implementation practices and identify opportunities to strengthen instructional alignment and support meaningful learning experiences districtwide.
The session will focus on practical, high-leverage leadership strategies such as embedding CS/DF "look-fors” into instructional walkthroughs, supporting PBL implementation through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and aligning professional learning opportunities to NY Inspires priorities and graduate competencies. Leaders will collaborate to refine ideas, share implementation strategies, and develop actionable next steps.
Participants will leave with a customized 30-60 day action plan that includes clear connections to CS/DF standards, PBL instructional practices, Portrait of a Graduate competencies, and sustainable systems-level leadership strategies.
