Learning at Higher Education is completely different to the experience we have at school and college. This section highlights those differences and provides learners with an insight of what to expect in HE.
We hope that these factsheets, videos and activities will give learners an accurate picture of what to expect. They can also live chat with current university students on our website to find out first-hand what the experience is like.
If you would like Shaping Futures to deliver a session on this to your learners please contact your HEPA or complete our booking form to arrange.
These factsheets and worksheets can be used by learners to explore the academic elements of being a university student. They will explore some of the HE terminology, such as what lectures and seminars are. We will also look at timetables and study facilities available.
The key thing about university study is that each students experience will be entirely different. This could be down to the modules chosen, placements and extra-curricular opportunities available. Studying Abroad is a really popular option amongst students, as it allows them to combine studying with travelling - which can enhance their employability skills and strengthen their cultural knowledge. The resources below explore these options in more depth.
Universities and Colleges have ample support available to their students, but sometimes it can be difficult to know where to find them. Services are known by different names at each institution, and it's not always clear what the service offers.
With this in mind Shaping Futures have produced a 'Student Support Glossary' designed to clarify what support services do and the kind of things they offer.
We hope this helps you and your students to be able to navigate support services, but do get in touch with your HEPA if you'd like more information on this topic.
