Making decisions is a key aspect of transition through key stages 3 to 5. It is important for young people to get involved with this process and recognise why they will benefit from leading on their own decision making whenever possible. Our resources highlight the stages of decision making and provide a variety of activities so that students can begin to take responsibility for their own futures when deciding on what GCSE Options to take, what Post 16 Pathway is right for them and how this all links to their Post 18 opportunities. Playing a key role on their own future can create a sense of empowerment and lead to a surge in motivation to achieve their career aspirations.
If you would like us to deliver a session on this topic, please contact your HEPA or use our booking form to arrange.
Creating a plan is a key part of the decision making process. These resources will help learners to use SMART goals to move from where they are now to where they want to be!
This workbook can be used by students in years 11 to 13 to walk through the stages leading to making the choice of degree level study. It can work well with a variety of our sessions throughout ‘Making Decisions’. It is accessible online as an interactive workbook or can be downloaded and be given directly to students to work on in class.
This is an excellent resource to help students make links between their current likes and interests and their future options. They can start to explore the longer-term opportunities and put their own SMART Goals in place to make this achievable. We have sessions to explain the idea of Careers Research which go hand in hand with this workbook and help support the experiences students will have when they engage with their Careers Adviser at school.
These activities are designed to help learners consider the options available to them and identify the factors involved in important decisions.
Here students are asked to consider the Pro’s and Con’s when looking at their options whether that be choosing GCSE’s in Key Stage 3 or deciding on the right Post16 Pathway at Key Stage 4.
This activity aimed at Key Stage 3 and 4 can help demonstrate how we go through some simple steps to make decisions in our everyday lives.
Shaping Futures have produced this guide for parents, careers and supporters, to provide guidance in the GCSE Options process.
