Applying to university is an exciting time, but one that can be complicated to navigate. We've collated resources here which we believe will be beneficial to learners who are in the application process.
Shaping Futures can support priority schools with this process by delivering presentations, advising on personal statements and providing target ward learners with 1-2-1 support. We are available from the point of researching HE right up until a learner transitions onto their course. Please contact your HEPA to discuss support available, or use our booking form to express your interest in a session.
This document provides learners with a complete overview of the application process - from researching to starting university. It includes a step-by-step walk through of what to expect.
Shaping Futures are able to support learners from our priority schools through this process. If you would like to find out more about the support on offer please contact your HEPA or use our booking form.
It's no secret that UCAS is a one-stop-shop for all things related to applying to university. Learners can search for courses, read about HE topics, get support with writing their personal statement and explore their options.
Before learners start applying they should have thoroughly researched their options. If you think they still need support with this please get in touch with your HEPA and we can advise on how to do this.
This overview provides the key need-to-knows about the personal statement: what to include, what not to include and how long it should be!
Most learners find writing about themselves tricky. Being faced with a blank A4 page and a deadline is a daunting experience, so we have put together this workbook which provides prompts to help students begin the process. Use the workbook as an interactive online tool or printed resource in the classroom to help your learners to get the skeleton of their personal statement written.
Top tip: write as much as possible, your first draft is likely to be well over the word count, but that's okay! You can start to cut it down once you have everything on the page.
University Outreach Teams can help teachers by offering free campus visits, workshops and advice to learners. Shaping Futures work with 12 local University & Further Education institutions. Get in touch with us to find out more about services available.
This process provides an opportunity for anyone who did not meet the entry requirements for their chosen course, or those who have changed their mind about what and where they want to study, an opportunity to apply elsewhere.
Before making an application, it is essential that learners have done extensive research into their course and university options.
Visiting Open Days and attending Applicant Visit Days can really help the decision making process as it provides a really good insight into what the experience will be like.
Individual universities will advertise their own Open Days, so direct learners to their webpages, but Uni Taster Days also lists hundreds of events including Subject Taster Days and Summer Schools.
For assistance with preparing your learners for their Open Days and Applicant Days, contact your HEPA.
