Labour Market Information (LMI) is a useful tool to for all ages to help with research into future jobs in the local area, nationally and globally to understand the skills needed for certain roles and the demand for future employment. Students will be able to recognise that this is an important part of career planning and that is most definitely is relevant to them!
LMI is constantly changing especially as new technology impacts what jobs exist and what jobs start to disappear, we refer to this as Growth Sectors or Sectors in Decline.
All our factsheets can be used on their own or as part of one of our sessions which are available for in person or virtual delivery by our Shaping Futures team. Please contact your HEPA or use our booking form to express your interest in these sessions.
This is a great way to introduce students to the meaning of LMI with references to setting their own Career Goals. This will encourage further research into the career's students have started to explore and to be realistic about the opportunities available to them now and in the future. With a short informative video, it leads on to explain what all the statistical data could mean to them and how to access this online.
For those students with career ideas in mind they can try a fun online tool – The Careerometer Widget! This lets students see predictions that use LMI to see whether there will be growth or decline and look at the type of pay a role typically commands.
This interactive factsheet aims to get students thinking about what’s going on locally in terms of the demand for jobs within the Liverpool City Region. They are asked to consider those sectors that they think are growing and then look at those sector by sector using example, images and videos of places they may well recognise.
To reflect students are invited to use an online Careers Exploration tool to find out more about those sectors they may have started to take an interested in. This will help to reveal jobs they may not have known existed and find out all the facts including the pathways to them.
This is a brilliant insight into a variety of different and unusual jobs through the exploration of job profile videos. With a big emphasis on Careers Research students will find out lots of valuable information if they go on to use the careers websites listed at the end.
Students can use this to go on a fact-finding mission for the careers that they are interested in. This works best when used as part of one of LMI sessions our sessions.
This organisation offers a number of careers services to young people in the UK. The webpage details the top 15 growth sectors, routes into careers and free courses for developing employability skills.
This resource is ideal for both independent research and group activities in the classroom.
