Careers after Higher Education

When we think about the reasons that people go to university, having more career opportunities is often high up on the list. Whether someone has a specific career in mind, or is aware of the greater earning potential from having a degree, it is definitely a huge selling point for young people who are considering their options.

We have collated some useful resources which provide an insight into the career pathways available after HE. Please contact your HEPA or use our booking form if you would like us to deliver a session on this to your class or chat 1-2-1 with any Target Ward Learners who are considering their options.

Careers Advice at University

This factsheet looks at the careers support learners can expect once they get into higher education. We will explain the purpose of university career teams and how they benefit undergrads during their degree to find work experience, placements and voluntary roles, and beyond graduation to secure them employment.

Career Planning

Pathways Planner.pdf

This worksheet demonstrates how having a career path in mind can help individuals to work backwards - ensuring they have the right qualifications to pursue their chosen pathway.

Using the Prospects website learners will identify a career to explore, and use the information to find out which subjects they would need to take at GCSE, A Level/BTEC and degree level to get there. They may need to look at the entry requirements on university webpages - so this is a great exercise for giving learners the skills they need to research their options.

Student Stories

We could talk all day about making the right choices early on, and how university can lead to careers that we had never considered ... but we know learners prefer to hear from university students themselves! Here are three alumni from our partner universities - Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University and University of Chester. Find out how these individuals shaped their career path from their degree and university experience.
