Alternative Pathways

When it comes to higher education we know that university isn't for everyone. However, most young people don't realise that there are ways to continue studying without going to university. In this section we explore the alternative pathways available.

Shaping Futures are able to deliver a presentation on this topic to your learners if this would be beneficial. We can also offer 1-2-1 support to target ward learners who are exploring their options and may be considering an alternative pathway to HE. Please contact your HEPA, or use our booking form, to find out more.

Types of Qualification

Lets start by understanding the level of qualification that learners typically achieve before they leave school.

Level 4 Qualifications

For most learners, staying in education translates to going to university. This isn't necessarily the case, they could take qualifications at levels 4+ by going to college, applying for an apprenticeship or learning whilst working. This section explores these options in further detail.

University and Degree Apprenticeships

For some, university may be the best option. This can still be flexible, with options such as part-time study, distance learning or studying at a local college rather than a university campus. Degree Apprenticeships also offer an opportunity for working whilst obtaining a degree. We have some more information on researching these options here.
