Red moonlight bathes the area with its tinged darkness. Unseen, an invisible Sheila makes her way along the face of a ruined wall, where stone double doors mark a side entrance of what remains of the Three Moons tower.
Two pillars flank the doorway. Next to each, a silver, cresent moon-headed Moonlight Guardian standing motionless, on guard.
Whaddya bet it's going to be locked?
Make a Spot Hidden roll.
Sheila's SPOT HIDDEN (12), rolls a ⬙(7) = Success!
Not locked? Oh, crap. That means this is going to be bad. But where's the trap?!
Bobby anxiously crouches behind a craggy ruin, along with Riffel Kender and Hank, who watches carefully with his eagle-eyed attention.
Is it time yet?
Nearly there... nearly...
Hank stops, then whistles a signal.
🎵 Coo-Koo!🎵
At the sound, Diana makes a sudden appearance across the way, traveling with a series of flips until she finishes off a floor routine
All right, boys. Come out and play!
" . . . "
What jumps! Is she a wererabbit?! Or would that a were-hare?
Shush!
As the Moonlight Guardians leave, Sheila takes a deep breath, holding the door handle and readying for anything.
Okay, time for ROUND ONE, draw for Initiative.

OH NOZE
" . . . "
Doubling its move, one of the Moonlight Guardians reaches Diana. The other stops its advance with enough advance to level its left arm-- out of its featureless stump erupts a burst of white moonlight.
What the-- ?! That's too fast!
Moonlight Blast = -2 WP
Diana dodges! (EVADE: 15), rolls a ⬙(14) = Success!
And *lasers*?! What the heck is this?!
Holy Shit! Sheila! Go! Now!
Here goes!
Sheila flings the door, and suddenly a bright cone of magic radiates from the middle of the doorframe to spotlight the entryway.
Trap (Moonlight Blast) Damage 2D8 = 7 damage
Sheila's EVADE (14), rolls a ⬙(5) = Success!
Magic! Damn it. I knew it.
Whoo-hoo! She got it open! It's time to move it, move it!
Riffel keeps low, dashing out from cover and straight for the door. As he nears the pool of light, he ducks and rolls the same to avoid the light.
Riffel's EVADE (Default Theif NPC of 12), rolls a ⬙(6) = Success!
Follow me, Bobby!
Hank's EVADE (14), rolls a ⬙(7) = Success!
Bobby's EVADE (12), rolls a ⬙(1) = a dragon success!
First Hank, then Bobby, run as fast as they can, crossing the area to reach the entrance in seconds, their momentum carrying them through. Bobby in particular leaps through a narrow space between the light beam and the door frame, landing and sliding along the floor, his club ready to swing.
He pauses, lowering his club as he takes in the dramatic display of a noble statue that elegantly dominates this anteroom.
Who-oa.
ROUND TWO, draw for Initiative.

Diana! On my mark....
. . .
Now!
With her Staff as leverage, Diana vaults over the Moonlight Guardian next to her.
Sorry, mac. Not tonight!
Staff of Acrobats = - 3WP
Dodge (EVADE: 15), rolls with a boon ⬙(1, 17) = a dragon success!
Diana takes off running as fast as she can, sprinting toward the door. As she passes the second Guardian, it readies another blast at her but it goes wide.
Give her cover!
BOW OF LIGHT = -6 WP for Power Level 2
Material Strength D10 (7,1) = 8. OMG.
As Diana reaches the doorway, Hank fires an arrow to slightly upward, its energy creating a half-dome to separate the Moonlight Guardians from the entrance.
Diana stops, panting, just short of the light-trap that continues to shine upon the entryway.
There's gotta be something we can use to help block the doors!
Bobby runs up to a weapons rack, with a sword and sheiled prominently displayed. Similarly, a breastplate proudly stands on a dummy.
Nice.
" . . . "
The Guardians advance toward Hank's glowing dome of light. The closest one pounds on the shield with its blunt left arm.
Brawling MOONLIGHT SLAM (16), rolls a ⬙(13) = Hit!
Damage 2D8 (9) + Damage Bonus D6 (1) = 10 bludgeoning damage
Hank's aura of protection shatters easily under the Guardian's massive blow. Diana cringes as the light flickers in sparks all around her.
No!! Maybe I can distract them?!
Angling the mirror, Sheila catches some of the light from the magic beaming down from the doorway, trying to angle it into what passes for the monsters' faces.
Make a SLEIGHT OF HAND roll, with a bane.
Sheila's SLEIGHT OF HAND (14), rolls a ⬙(10) = Success!
" . . . "
The creature does react, in a split-second moment of suprise, as if a fly buzzed nearby.
Whoo-hoo! Flashy! I like it! Now let's see how they like *this!*
(taking out his sling, he fires a stone)
SLINGS (12), rolls a boon from Sheila's HELP ⬙(11, 1) = a dragon success! No way LOL
Damage 2D8 (7,8) + Damage Bonus D4 (1) = 16 - Armor (4) = 12
OMG he downed it LOL
The stone flies into the confused creature's head, chipping off a large portion of the tip of the crescent.
The Guardian falls, spasming in short, quick movements on the floor, as cracks extend up and down along its surface until it breaks open, falling apart into chunks.
ROUND THREE, uhh.... let's just wrap it up!
Come on, Acrobat! Flip on in!
Hi-yah!
Dodge (EVADE: 15), rolls a ⬙(6) = Dodge!
Diana lands easily inside, and Bobby comes running with a newfound shield in one hand, his club in the other.
Quick! Close it up! Hold the door!
Hank on one side, Shiela and Riffle on the other, all manage to shut the heavy doors to the outside.
Bobby completes the closure by jamming the sheild where the doors meet the floor, knocking it forcibly with his club, just to make sure.
There is pounding from the door as the creature bashes against it.
Everyone takes a collective moment to breathe, but thankfully the pounding grows infrequent, then stops.
Okay... that stopped. But is it a bad thing, or a good thing?
Well, it's certainly going to be an *interesting* thing. That's even better!
to be continued in 8.9 Three Moons Vault Dungeon . . .
GM FOOTNOTES:
I was going to fire a blast as Diana ran past Moonlight Guardian #2, but I couldn't see anything in the rules about a ranged or spell attack allowing the, you know, "opportunity". Only melee is mentioned as free attacks.
I adjusted Hank's weapon as of this chapter, so that's it's reflective of a spell caster's ability to increase things according to power level. Not that it mattered, though. There have been good rolls overall lately, but also some pretty swingey ones.
