I'm going to be writing as much as I can ahead of time, and post one section of a chapter at a time. While I am aiming for something daily, there's no promises that I can find a regular schedule, or even be able to complete it to the very end, but I'm going to do my best!
* * * I actually started this project by playtesting the 2nd edition rules for Pelgrane Press' The 13th Age anticipating its upcoming release. However...
With chapter 5.3, coinciding with the close of the playtesting, I shifted to Free League's Dragonbane. This is not an indictment on 13th Age! I find the solo play of multiple characters is made easier with Dragonbane, which already supplements its rules with solo play suggestions.
Not to be outdone, I jumped onto the new release of Daggerheart for Chapter 9.1 and following.
You'll notice that I'm a big fan of reskinning things as much as possible, so Eric's a Paladin/ Knight / Serpah (wait. "Seraph?!") only so much that his magic shield themes quite well with these types. I mean, for a Paladin he's not got any gods to be a patron of, and a Seraph (really, all of Daggerheart's characters) are much more magical in nature than his true origin should be. Notice, too, how Presto's spells change constantly in their visuals while remaining essentially the same mechanically. And etc. etc. etc. for many elements. If something seems "off," it's more likely that I'm trying to do some reskinning than a fault (or feature) of the current system.
I've been playing rpgs for over 15 years, and in the past two/three years I've been playing DnD 5e, 13th Age, Delta Green, Mothership, and various indie games while also running Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands, Kids on Bikes, Mutant Year Zero, and more.
