Day 1 Formative Tasks
Listening:
( /30): "Transcribe-draw-number": From the 《两头住》 video:
hear one or more sentences together in the video, but chosen at random
write the pinyin (no tones required!) for the sentence/s
draw a simple picture to show understanding of what the person said
write the number of the prompt
You should watch the original video and this explainer video many times.
Reading:
( /18): In 《养宠物》(Pages 2, 3, 4) choose three underlined phrases on each page (total 9).
Draw a sketch to show accurate understanding of the meaning of each underlined phrase you chose, and
write a number to indicate which phrase you chose from the reading (the numbers need to match).

Day 2 Formative Task
Writing:
( /30): (120+ characters) Explore one unit question, above, by writing a survey report (5. 采访稿（总结性） here, and explainer video here) using information from both 《养宠物》(Part 1 + Part 2) + 《两头住》. Your overall survey report should be coherent. This means the information from the sources need to directly answer the unit question.

Choose one Unit 2 unit question--see above on this page. Give a spoken presentation that uses information from all but one of the texts above to answer to your unit question. Include:
a conventional opening, transitions, and closing following this speech notes format
your unit question on the first slide, only in Chinese characters and English
pictures from all but one of the articles (you choose) to talk about
additional pictures that represent the information in the articles you chose to also talk about
minimal text on the slides
Listening, following presentation: ( /24pts Criterion A + B2 + C, 25% of final exam grade)
The teacher will ask a series of questions about the texts you just presented. The questions will probe through the information you presented on AND other information in those texts. This listening segment is intended to:
check that you really read and understood the information throughout the texts you chose to present
check if you can understand the questions asked
check if you can give relevant answers to the questions asked

Reading:
All of the texts from this section will be provided in a stapled packet. Each text will have five phrases underlined and numbered. From each text, choose three underlined phrases. Draw a sketch to show accurate understanding of the meaning of each underlined phrase you chose, and write a number to indicate which phrase you chose from the reading (the numbers need to match).
Writing:
( /30, Criteria A + B+ C): (180+ characters) Write a survey report (5. 采访稿（总结性）here) that explores one of the Unit 2 unit questions, above. Use information from all but two of the texts listed above. Your overall survey report should be coherent--the information from the sources help answer the unit question.

You will not have the texts at the time of writing, but you can bring a single sheet of paper with your own hand-copied sentences from the texts, one side only. Your single sheet of paper cannot have draft sentences to copy directly for your writing. The goal of making this "cheat sheet" is to practice reading, understanding, and thinking about the sentences you intend to use in your writing. Copy your unit question onto your "cheat sheet". As you prepare, think about which quotes from our texts will be good answers to your chosen unit question.

Speaking:

then discuss the same texts and images on a different DP theme for 6 minutes.
