Day 1
Listening:
( /20分 fēn "points"): Listen to audio-only clips from the 《李子柒》video, transcribe the pinyin (7分) tone marks (7分) and English (6分) for all assigned sections in the document. Listen to this in different ways--with English subs, with only Character subs (move the window off screen or resize the window to block English subs, and audio only (minimize the window, turn your computer around, etc.)
Reading:
( /20): In the text 《喜欢汉服(1)》, transcribe into standard Mandarin pinyin (7分) tone marks (7分) and English (6分) for all assigned sections (see document).

Day 2
Writing:

Choose one unit question above. Answer your unit question using information from all 文本 listed above.
You will not have any of the 文本 at the time of writing, but you can bring a single sheet of paper with your own hand-copied sentences from the 文本, on one side only. Your single sheet of paper cannot have anything outside from the title and direct quotes from the main 文本 listed above. Adding pinyin with tones and English is recommended to maximize learning. The goal of making this "cheat sheet" is to promote learning through practicing reading, understanding, and thinking about the sentences in the texts you intend to use in your writing.

1. Listening:

You will be provided random clips
Do not write pinyin, do not write tone marks
Only write English that fully represents the exact words used by the speakers
You should watch the explainer to build your ears for the words and sentences in context, and to understand the meaning in exact wording. You can check your subtitles with the teacher prior to the summative.
2. Reading:
( /30): From the 《喜欢汉服(1)》 and ("Generate two lists",↯3) texts:
read each question about the text in Mandarin
find the answer to the question in the text
underline just the information that answers the question (a word or short phrase)
write the number of the prompt near that underlined section
You should watch the explainer videos at the top of the document, linked above, as well as read through the pinyin by pasting the text into Google Translate or Naturalreaders.com, where you can also hear a different voice read to train your ears for this text.

3. Writing:

4. Speaking:
Lunch mock IA time (sign up on Classroom > Resources > Mandarin Calendar > Office Hours Doc)
( /30, scored on criteria A, B1, B2, C): Bring a printout containing pictures from all assigned texts for this summative. To practice for the IA individual oral exam (final exam week, Fall 2025):
explain all text info in the images for 4 minutes,
then discuss for 5 minutes (answer and expand on teacher's questions), and
then discuss the same texts and images on a different DP theme for 6 minutes.
