The situation: It is 1955 and you have been asked to help the Route 66 tourist board in your state by creating an online presentation to use at various events. (We realize that the technology you would use was not present at this time.) As part of this presentation you will design a typical trip through your state.
Overall your presentation will include the following.
History of the route in your state
Geography of the road in the state and what tribal lands it crossed.
Top 2 sites to visit
Amount of time to travel.
Find a place to stay overnight
Step 1: Conduct research
Your team consists of 4 experts or teams of experts who will play certain roles. You will conduct your research for your particular state. Go to your state page to find relevant resources. After researching, you or your team will create a google slide or powerpoint slide of what you found. You will share your presentation with the board (your class).
Historians: You are to research the years of Route 66 from inception to closing. Identify at least 3-5 facts that will add to the story of history of the Route 66 in your state.
Geographers: You are to map out in your state the route to places you will visit. You are to locate their positions on the state map. You are to also help your group examine the various American Indian tribes.
Tour guides: You will choose 2 places in the state to visit and 1 place to stay overnight. Provide pricing and information on each landmark.
Drivers: You will determine, the price of gas to travel. After price is determined, convert using 1950 prices in your state. You will also calculate time of travel using today's speed limit and the speed limit of the 1950's. (T=D/R)
*Math information for drivers:
Equation for travel time: Time (hours)= distance (miles)/ rate (mph)
Resources for your research: See the subpages for your state or go to this National Park Service website.
Step 2: Design presentation
Using google slides or powerpoint slides, whatever your teacher suggest, you will put your information together in a 4-6 slide overview of what you found. Be creative by adding music, etc. Also be sure that you have correct grammar, spelling, and good visuals. If you do borrow photos from a website please provide the citation in 10 point font in parentheses below the photo.
