A Message to Teachers: There is always two sides to every story...AT LEAST. By exploring route 66 and the multiple perspectives that comes with that, history begins to form into a complete picture. Our elementary school experience with social studies consisted of biased textbooks, resulting in boring discussions. We feel that route 66 has shown me and my students how interactive and engaging social studies can be!
Perspectives can be taught and children will be open to sharing their thoughts. Setting a safe and comfortable environment is important to allowing these shared ideas. By connecting students to personal experiences, they are able to understand other multiple perspectives.
