Reflections

Weeks 1 & 2 (January 30-February 10, 2023)


This week, was our first week of starting PYP exhibition as we were introduced to it and was showned a video of last year's PYP exhbition. For our exhibition this year, we focused on the on the issues in the media. In the second week, we had a session with Ms. Maria Fe (February 6) about Academic Integrity. The next day, we listened to a PYP exhibition by former Grade 5 students (Feb 7). Then during the week, we started our blog. Karolyne made the group email for the blog. The ATL skills we displayed these two weeks were communication skills because we talked to each other about our exhibition. We also used thinking skills because we were conceiving the lines of inquiry and central idea.

Week 3 (February 13-17, 2023)


This week, we had a session with Ms. Richel (February 13) about central ideas and lines of inquiry. We used our PYP exhibition notebook (A3 drawing book) for taking notes and exhibition details. Afterwards, we were introduced to the exhibition planner. We also learnt about the parts of the planner. After, we continued to add to the pages for the blog. We created the "About us" and made the PYPX reflection based on the previous week. The ATL skills we showed this week was thinking skills because of creative thinking throughout the blog adding.

Week 4 (February  20-24, 2023)


This week, we had 2 sessions with Ms. Richel (February 21 & 23) on Action and Human Library. After the sessions, we planned our exhibition and our interviews. We then continued to design our blog and brainstormed on the final Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry. We also had to brainstorm our group name; we had a lot of names that came into our minds such as 'The Gazette' or 'Fourth estate' until we finally thought of the perfect name to call our group, 'The Revolutionaries'. The ATL skills we showed this week were thinking skills because we brainstormed on our Central Idea, LOI, and group names.

Week 5 (February  27- March 3, 2023)


This week was quite easy and simple. We finalized our Central idea and lines of inquiry (February 25). Mr. Freitz said that it was impressive. We had another session with Ms. Richel about ATLs. We also finalised our action plans and ended up with 2 action plans. She talked about the Approaches to learning skills (ATL skills). The ATL skill we displayed this week was self-management because we were organised and our progress was very effective.


Week 6 (March 6-10, 2023)


This week, we had Mr. Michael. visit our grade level to teach us about Paraphrasing. After the session, we created questions related to our LOI. Then during the week, we had a PYPX visit to Mentari School to see the examples of their exhibition (February 9). The ATL skills we showed this week were thinking skills and social skills because we observed and listened to the exhibition presentations and collaborate it to our exhibition.

Weeks 7 & 8 (March 13-21, 2023)

This week, we worked on the planner and added extra details to our blog. Our class found out who our mentors are, and our mentor was Ms. Lea. We had mentoring sessions every Monday and Wednesday. The ATL skills we displayed were thinking and self-management skills.  We showed this by being open to new ideas and reflected on what we did and improved by it.

Week 9 (April 3-6)

This week, we met our mentor Ms. Lea. Our focus was to finish our action plan, a movie day. On April 6, our group had a session with Ms. Richel to discuss our movie day. The ATL skills we showed were communication and thinking skills. We displayed these by thinking and discussing  the details of the movie day with Ms. Richel and Ms. Lea.

Week 10 (April 10-14, 2023)

This week, we put up posters to promote around the school about our movie day. The name of the movie we chose was "He Named Me Malala" and the date of the movie day was the 28th of April. We also promoted our movie by presenting to Grade 1-3 teachers and students. We also had a guest speaker that taught us more about media. The guest speaker was Ms. Anya, a journalist. The ATL skills we showed were research skills and social skills. We showed this because we answered questions from the students and researched more about Malala.

Week 11 (April 17-20, 2023)

This week, we sold some of our tickets for our movie day and asked people to fill in our survey. Over 200 people had already filled in our survey. The movie tickets costed Rp. 10,000 and we were going to use the money to buy magazines and newspapers to donate to our school. The ATL skills we showed this week were communicators. We showed this because we asked people to do our survey and buy our tickets.

Week 12 (April 27-28, 2023)

This week, we sold more tickets the day before our action plan. On the day of the action plan, we went to the 8th floor for the movie day. About 50 people went to our movie. We also made a kahoot about the movie and the top 5 winners got a prize. The ATL skills we showed this week were thinking skills. We showed this by thinking on what we could've done to attract more students.

Week 13 (May 2-5, 2023)

This week, we planned another action plan which was an information campaign (presenting our issue to lower grades). We had a parent mentor on Thursday. We discussed on what to put in our presentation and discussed on what to do with the money we earned. The ATL skills we showed were thinking skills. We displayed this skill by thinking on what to improve and asking each other questions.

Week 14 (May 8-12, 2023)

This week, we presented our second action plan to Grades 1-4. We also interviewed three people who are journalist and editors. We interviewed, Ms. Johanna Son, Ms. Kathy Castro, and Ms. Aurea Calica. After one of the interviews, we had a parent mentor and we discussed on what to add more to our presentation. The ATL skills we showed were research skills by researching information to put on our presentation and communication skills by discussing with our parent mentor, interviewees, and eachother. 

Week 15 (May 15-19)

This week, we planned our layout and prepared materials to decorate our board diplay. For our blog, we just did minor editing life fixing grammar mistakes and adding more photos to the gallery.  We also bought magazines  with the money we earned to  Grades 1-4.. The ATL skills we showed were social and communication skills.  We showed these skills by collaborating and communicating to give the magazines  to the grade-level heads and talking to each other to improve the tasks.

Week 16 (May 22-26)

This week was our last presentation week. During the week, we finished editing our presentation and board display. We practiced and improved based on the feedback given to us. On our presentation day, most of us felt nervous and felt so much pressure as we wanted to show our best. "Why did you choose 'The Revolutionaries' as your group name?" were one of the questions. Our response: "We are focusing on understanding the changing role of print media because our name, The Revolutionaries, includes the word revolution, which means change." We answered this question clearly and confidently which gave us the motivation to answer questions well. 

Throughout our presentation and presentation preparation, we developed all approaches to learning. We developed research skills by organizing all data in the presentation. We developed self-management skills by editing our presentation and board display just in time. We demonstrated communication skills by presenting and answering other student's questions. We applied social skills by giving group members each equal roles in the presentation. We displayed thinking skills by answering the questions based on the knowledge we gained from researching our topic.
