This week I implemented some of the more involved game mechanics, such as the hunger, happiness, and cleanliness meters. I also improved the 'go to work' mechanic and added a grocery mechanic.
I also created a basic sprite for the wife. Now that basically all of the coding is done, I can heavily focus on the art and dialogue in the final few weeks.
I am still very happy with how my progress is going. I think that with a majority of the coding in place, I will be able to make a lot of progress on the other aspects that have taken a back seat.
The only other major coding element I would like to add would be the ability for the player to interact with various objects around the house. I think that for this particular feature, I will actually focus on creating the visual elements before doing the coding.

David Lynch is an American filmmaker known for his distinctive style that blends surrealism, horror, and dreamlike imagery. Born in 1946, Lynch gained critical acclaim with films like Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive, all of which explore the dark and often bizarre undercurrents beneath seemingly ordinary settings. His work often delves into the subconscious, blurring the line between reality and dreams, leaving audiences both unsettled and mesmerized. Lynch’s unique storytelling and visual language have cemented him as one of the most influential filmmakers in contemporary cinema.
Lynch's work that I find the most inspiration in for this project is Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks is a television series co-created by David Lynch and Mark Frost that first aired in 1990. The show begins with the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer in the small town of Twin Peaks, but quickly descends into a surreal and unsettling world where nothing is as it seems.
What inspires me most about Twin Peaks is its ability to create a deeply immersive and atmospheric world. Lynch’s use of unsettling sound design and dreamlike visuals evoke a haunting atmosphere. I plan to experiment with creating similar environments that feel both inviting and unsettling. I’m interested in exploring this tension to create a sense of unease in my own work.
