Creative experiences, especially in play, music, movement and Visual Art, enhance children’s intellectual, social and emotional development. Young people naturally engage in creative acts which speak to us across time and place.
"The Boy and the Elephant", by Freya Blackwood.
Students designed and created a miniature city collaborative, a secret garden between apartment blocks, using a variety of materials, as inspired by shortlisted Book Week picture book, “The Boy and the Elephant”. The book is about a boy who must find a way to re-home trees before they are chopped down to make way for development. Children were inspired to think more critically about the world that we inhabit now and how we might sustain it for our future. They were aiming to develop images and templates from which to make and construct individual, three-dimensional buildings.
