I believe in creating meaningful assignments that will resonate with my students growth and understanding of the socialization process. Each key assignment is scaffolded in a way to help create a vast understanding of socialization, and to help students better serve the children and families they work with.
Emily's Case Study: This assignment requires students to analyze the case of Emily, a young child who has experienced trauma, and apply trauma-informed care (TIC) principles to support her growth and development. The purpose of this exercise is to bridge theory and practice, encouraging students to take what they know about the impact of trauma on Emily's life and focus on the practical application of TIC strategies.
Trauma-Informed Care Plan: In this assignment, students will develop a comprehensive Trauma-Informed Care Plan to implement in their classroom environment, ensuring they address the core principles of trauma-informed care to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for children who may have experienced trauma. Students will focus on strategies such as fostering emotional and physical safety, building trust, supporting collaboration, and promoting empowerment within their classroom.
Additionally, students will design a Self-Care Plan tailored to their personal and professional needs to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout. This plan will include specific self-care strategies, such as mindfulness practices, setting healthy boundaries, and incorporating restorative activities, to help sustain their well-being and effectiveness as educators in a trauma-informed setting.
