Orientation: The goal of our Orientation is to get to know the class and to learn how to successfully navigate through canvas and APA format.
Module 1: Introduction to Trauma-Informed Care: Welcome to Trauma Informed Care in Early Childhood Education. As we learned in the CHDV C133: Trauma and Early Childhood course, trauma can have a lasting effect on children, and affect children across development. Educators must be equipped with the knowledge, tools, and resources to help children navigate through, and heal from their trauma.
Module 2: Physical and Psychological Safety: This week, students will learn how to create a secure and nurturing environment to help children who have experienced trauma. This includes looking at the physical environment, and how it interacts with children. The environment must promote diversity and inclusivity, and empower children and families.
Module 3: Trauma-Informed Care Practices in the Classroom: This week, students will learn about the key principles to trauma informed care. Student will also be exploring the practical implementation of TIC to help create a safe environment for children.
Module 4: TIC Practices: This week, students will demonstrating their knowledge by applying what they learned through modules 1-4 to Emily's case study. Students will incorporate TIC practices to Emily's case study.
Module 5: Fostering Communication and Self-Regulation: This week, students will be learning about the importance of children's communication and self-regulation skills. Students will be exploring strategies to help build these skills while building their understanding on the seesaw effect.
Module 6: Self-Care Strategies for Preventing Burnout: This week, students will explore self-care strategies and learn about mindfulness practices they can use to help prevent burnout. Students will also explore apps to help with mindfulness practices.
Module 7: The Protective Factors Framework: This week, students will learning about the protective factor framework and how to apply it in the classroom to help support children and families. Student will explore the 6 protective factors and understand their role in creating a safe environment for children to explore.
Module 8: Trauma-Informed Care Plan: This week, students will be creating and finalizing their trauma-informed care plan. Student's trauma-informed care plans will enable students to be prepare for identifying and intervening with children who may have experienced trauma, creating trauma-informed environments, and creating a self-care regime to prevent burnout.
