Orientation: The goal of our Orientation is to get to know the class and to learn how to successfully navigate through canvas and APA format.
Module 1: What is Trauma: This week, students will learn about the impact trauma as we define trauma and listing various types of trauma. Trauma, in its essence, refers to the psychological and emotional aftermath of distressing events that overwhelm an individual's capacity to cope. Let's dive a bit more in to trauma as we explore this week's module.
Module 2: Trauma's Impact on Health and Development: This week, students will learn about the impact trauma has on children's health and development. This includes children's physical development, brain development, emotional development, and cognitive functioning. We will be exploring example of traumatic events, and reflecting on our experiences with trauma.
Module 3: Childhood Adversities Impact on Trauma: This week, students will learn about the factors that impacts the effects of trauma such as the nature of trauma, age, and gender. Student will be exploring childhood adversities. risk factors, toxic stress, and using that information to learn how to build resiliency in children.
Module 4: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES): This week, students will learn about children's adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and how children can develop negative thoughts about themselves after experiencing trauma. Students will also learn about different characteristics children may develop due to trauma. Be ready to explore strategies to help children navigate through ACEs
Module 5: Trauma Sensitive Practices SLO Case Study: This week, students will be exploring trauma sensitive practices, and the concept of FLIP it to help address challenging behaviors. Students will be using the information they learned from modules 1-5 and applying their knowledge to a case study. The goal is for students to apply their knowledge to real practical situations.
Module 6: Building Partnerships With Children and Families: This week, students will explore barriers and solutions to partnering with children and families. Student will focus on the idea of applying strength-based attitudes when it comes to engaging families in the learning environment.
Module 7: The Protective Factors Framework: This week, students will learning about the protective factor framework and how to apply it in the classroom to help support children and families. Student will explore the 6 protective factors and understand their role in creating a safe environment for children to explore.
Module 8: Community Support Systems: This week, students will be identifying effective ways to support families by exploring community support systems within their community. Students will be submitting their community support project.
