I believe in working with students toward a successful outcome. As a first generation college student, I understand how balancing work, family and school can deplete our energy. Together, we can be inspired to reach our goals and our highest potential.

Orientation: The goal of our Orientation is to get to know the class and to learn how to successfully navigate through canvas and APA format.
Module 1: Introduction to Theories: This week, we will be taking a look in to some theories that will help us understand how how children develop. There have been many studies that that highlights many aspects of children's development. Some theories compliment each others, while some give conflicting information on how children develop.
Module 2: Understanding Socialization: As we know, or may learn is that socialization is internalized values and norms we learn from the many agents of socialization we interact with. It is how we understand the world around us. This week, we will be looking more in to different agents of socialization such as family, school, and peers.
Module 3: Why Culture is Important: Culture plays a huge role in who we are, how we behave, how we speak, and how we view others. We will be exploring culture, and how we are impacted as individuals by culture.
Module 4: A look Into Gender: A huge topic of discussion is gender. Is gender a social construct, or are we born with gender? We will be diving into a deep topic discussing gender stereotypes in media, and the role society play in how we view gender.
Module 5: A Look Into Family: Human beings are social creatures. We blossom in to having relationships with our peers, teachers, communities, media, etc, but everything starts early on from our relationship with our families. We will be defining family, and exploring the family microsystem.
Module 6: Family Policies: When looking in to family childcare centers, it is important to be able to identify their practices of empowering families, and encouraging family involvement. We will be dissecting family handbooks to identify this information.
Module 7: Parenting Parenting is a hard task, and how we parent will have a strong, lasting impact on the child. Parenting styles are important to understand because they have an influence over children's behaviors, and the overall family.
Module 8: The Power of Community: "A welcoming environment implies that a program has focused efforts on maintaining an atmosphere that is inviting to families and honors their presence". This also extends to the community, which is why it is important for centers to provide community resources. This week we will learn how o support families, as we explore the role of communities.
Module 9: The Impact of Teachers on Socialization: "A growing body of research suggests that meaningful engagement of families in their children's early learning supports school readiness and later academic success" What does this mean? This means that teachers engaging families in to their children's learning experiences will increase children's academic success.
Module 10: Creating Positive Relationships with Students: It is so important for centers to have a nurturing environment that is culturally aware, and inclusive. This week, we will be focusing on building positive attitudes and exploring what strength-based attitudes look like. How can teachers create a classroom environment that encourages positive, goal-oriented relationships with families?
Module 11: Socialization Report: This week, we will be wrapping up our Socialization Report that we have been working on throughout the semester. Our Socialization Report consist of sphere of influences where students are reflecting on how they were impacted by different agents of socialization during their upbringings
Module 12: Final Goodbyes: Yay! It's time to relax as we enter the last week of this course. It's been such a wonderful semester with so much information to learn. This week, we will be saying our goodbyes and reflecting on our experiences in this course.
