I believe in creating meaningful assignments that will resonate with my students growth and understanding of the socialization process. Each key assignment is scaffolded in a way to help create a vast understanding of socialization, and to help students better serve the children and families they work with.
Out-of-School-Program-Observation Assignment: The Out-of-School Program Observation assignment requires students to evaluate how teachers implement best practices in out-of-school settings (SLO 1). Students will also analyze how developmentally appropriate principles and teaching strategies are applied to support and positively influence the development and learning of school-aged children in these programs (SLO 2). This hands-on observation encourages students to connect theory with real-world applications.
Curriculum Project: The Curriculum Project assignment challenges students to create a portfolio of curriculum ideas and resources designed for an out-of-school program. Students will apply their knowledge by designing, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate curriculum, schedules, and routines, ensuring they align with the developmental needs of school-aged children. This project emphasizes practical application and comprehensive planning.
