With the view to tracing our lineage a generation further back, two schools of thought about our origin are possible and either one of the following two scenarios is possible. Until records are able to provide more exacting evidence, the following remains unconfirmed -
William Thurloe born c1716, died a pauper and was buried on 31 December 1793 at Swavesey, CAM. He married his first wife Mary c1745—she was born c1721 at Fenstanton, HUN and buried there on 27 January 1767 leaving him with a young daughter, Alice, aged nine. Four other children born of this marriage include Alice who did not survive birth (1755-1755), Elizabeth (19), William (21) and possibly Francis (23). Obviously, in need of someone to care for young Alice, William would have in all probability taken a second wife. Elizabeth Pryor, a widow, at Fenstanton, HUN on 27 April 1767 is a strong possibility.
William Thurloe, son of John, is found in official records under the variants of Thurley and Thirley. He was baptised on 13 April 1746 at Fenstanton, HUN and married Mary Crane (c1746-1823) at Swavesey, CAM on 15 October 1771. Known children born to this marriage include John (1772-1835), Ann (1776- ), Elizabeth (1781-1781/85 ), Elasebeth or Elizabeth (1786-1810) and Sarah (1788-before 1841). See above illustration labelled "A Possible Scenario".
John Thurlow, born 1713 in Histon, CAM, England married Elizabeth Stallybrass (or Stallabrass) in Histon on 25 October 1738. Elizabeth was baptised in Histon on 6th August 1713.

John Thurley, born at Yelling, HUN, and baptised on 25 October 1772 at Swavesey, CAM, the son of William and Mary (née Crane) Thurloe or Thurley, was buried at Conington, CAM on 30 April 1835. Ann Ward (c1775-1825 Conington, CAM) and John were married on 11 October 1796 at Conington, CAM. Known children born to this marriage include William (1797-1821+), John (1799-1878), James (1801-1846), Robert (c1802-c1875), Charles (1807- ), Philip (1809-?), David (1811-1836), Richard (1812-1870), Thomas (1815-c1872) and Matthew (1817-1872). After Ann's death at the early age of 50, John married Sarah Jetson (c1800-1856) on 2 September 1827 at Conington, CAM.
