Nellie Katrina Berthelsen (1887-1933) of Bundaberg married Martin Frederick "Fred" Chenery who was a Bundaberg Postal Clerk before coming to live in Brisbane. Fred saw action in World War I during which time he lost a leg. Due to Fred's war injury the family was forced to leave Bundaberg to be nearer medical treatment which was more readily available to returned servicemen in Brisbane. Here the family resided firstly in Inkerman Street and later at Merton Road, Woolloongabba. Fred then worked at a nearby bootmaker's shop. Nellie passed away when the children were still quite young. By this time, the girls were teenagers and were reared by their cousin, Lizzy Thrush and her husband, Les.
Fred (Snr) died while living at Vulture Street, South Brisbane. He was buried on Saturday, 13 September 1947 in the Dutton Park cemetery. The funeral undertaker was Alex Gow of Petrie Bight.
Frederick Lacey Chenery "Fred" Jnr (1910-1961), the eldest child of the marriage worked for Finney Isles & Company and later Allan and Stark, both reputable Queen Street shopping emporiums of the day. Fred married a Scottish lassie - Margaret "Marjorie" Houston Whitla and they had one surviving child - a daughter, Greta, the first child being stillborn. Fred (Jnr) enlisted to serve in the second World War. Tragically, he returned from the war in a "bomb happy" state; he lost his nerve and afterwards died while a patient of the Brisbane Mental hospital at Goodna.
Irene "Lorna', the second child (1920-1994), married Edward Davis around 1956 and now lives at Beecroft in Sydney; they have no children.
Mavis Nelllie (1924-?) married Ron Rowland around 1964 and lives at Annerley in Brisbane; they too have no children.
