LAW TEACHERS AND SCHOLARS (LTS)

Preamble:

Law Teachers and Scholars (LTS) is a semi-professional platform for dialogue amongst Law teachers, scholars and professionals for aiding discussion, publication, academic exchanges, and academic events of mutual interest, and promoting courses and programmes, for the promotion of this interdisciplinary field.

The group policy allows sharing of events, e.g., conferences, seminars, and calls for papers, related to various aspects of Law. It is for people with an academic interest in law, so we also share openings for fellowships, scholarships and jobs in law.

ABOUT LTS

Concept: It is a hierarchy-free model, based upon mutual respect.

Objectives: To promote the interdisciplinary interactions between Law Teachers and Scholars. Academic exchanges should be increased amongst the academics, Judiciary, and beyond; More researchers should be promoted to undertake research in this interdisciplinary field; and we should strive together to create more career and academic growth opportunities in this field, so that the young scholars, and seasoned academics alike can make a meaningful contribution by the application of this branch of knowledge in the service of the human society.

A Brief History: on 10 March 2021 Prasannanshu created the WhatsApp group. This may be seen as a sister group of an older group ‘Law, Language, and Culture’ (LLC) (https://sites.google.com/view/prasannanshu/law/law-language-and-culture-group?authuser=0) that came into existence in 2017, and which is an International professional platform made to facilitate interaction amongst Lawyers, Language Professionals, and people from the fields of Culture and other studies, and boasts of witnessing several international academic events including the international Winter Schools held in NLU Delhi in 2017 and 24-28 Feb. 2020, one in Florence, Italy, and most recently, in July 2020, an Online conference in collaboration with the University of Sydney.

Members: We are nearing 50 members. There is a lot of flexibility, and there are no hard or fast rules for admission, still if not all, almost all members are postgraduates, and there is a predominance of doctorates and research degree holders. Professionally, our members range from Professors, Deans, Directors to Research Scholars, and students.

Status: It is not an official forum -- we can proudly say, 'there is nothing official about it' :-), and it is free (There is no membership fee). At the same time, it is a fraternity that means (academic) business, and is designed to deliver in many invisible and visible ways.

Suspension and Termination of membership:

13. Termination of the membership of the group should not be taken personally against anyone, and one can join again in most of the cases after they ensure that they are aware of the rules of this group, and assure the administrators of the same, and fulfil the requirements, if any.

a. In case of an oversight, or first transgression a polite reminder may be issued in the group or individually, by the administrators, or other concerned members.

b. The expected response to such a reminder is removal of a post and/or mentioning the inadvertence, or oversight, and an assurance of not repeating the mistake. If such a reminder is ignored (or even otherwise) the following steps may be applied.

i. In the first instance of not keeping the rules of the group: suspension of membership for ten days.

ii. In the second instance of not keeping the rules of the group: suspension of membership for thirty days.

iii. In the third instance of not keeping the rules of the group: termination of membership may be recommended and executed by the admins.

14. All these cases of suspension and termination may be reviewed and revoked by the admins. Further, it is not necessary for the administrator(s) to go by the abovementioned steps in a strict sequence, some or all the steps may be skipped based upon individual assessment of a particular situation. This process is only a general guideline, in exceptional cases suspension, termination, or revocation, or any other suitable action (including legal) may be implemented.

Leaving the group:

15. No one is forced to stay in this group, rather many people consider it a privilege to be a part of this group. However, some people leave the group abruptly, it raises questions in the minds of others. Hence, in case you have to leave, as an act of courtesy, kindly drop a polite line in the group, or take the admins into confidence. However, in many cases there is an accidental exit. To avoid such incidents the members who leave, or the admins can communicate with each other and find out about the causes. That will improve communication, and we can avoid accidental exits.
