International Winter Schools/Colloquiums on Law, Language, and Culture:

Since 2017 Prasannanshu has been co-organizing International Winter Schools on Law, Language, and Culture. These are possibly the biggest and most important such events in the world. The First edition of this event was held in Delhi in Feb. 2017 (Proceedings published by Aracne editrice, Italy); the Second, in Florence, Italy in June 2018 (Proceedings published by: Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, Germany), and the Latest edition was held in Delhi from 24-28 February 2020, in Collaboration with National Law University, Delhi, University Paris Nanterre, France, and Potsdam University, Germany with a funding support from Franco-German University.

Prasannanshu co-chaired the following:

    1. International Winter School on Law, Language, and Culture was organized at National Law University, Delhi, Sector-14, Dwarka, New Delhi (India) from 24 - 28 February 2020. It was collaboratively Organized by National Law University, Delhi; University Paris Nanterre, France and Potsdam University, Germany, With a funding support from Franco-German University. The Conference co-chairs were: Prof. (Dr.) Tilman Bezzenberger, Potsdam University, Germany, Prof. (Dr.) Stephanie Dijoux, Director, German-French Law curriculum, UPN, and Prof. (Dr.) Prasannanshu, Director, Centre for Linguistic Justice and Endangered Languages, NLUD, Conference.

    2. A Five-Nation Colloquium (France / Germany / Italy / Great Britain / India) on the theme of ‘Law and Culture: Interdisciplinary Approach to End-Of-Life Care’ held at Villa Finaly, Florence, Italy during 25 – 27 June 2018. Prasannanshu Was a Co-Director, along with Uwe Hellmann, Professor, Universität Potsdam, and Stephanie Rohlfing-Dijoux, Professor, Université Paris Ouest Nanterre.

    3. The Tri-national Winter University (Germany / France / India) hosted by National Law University, Delhi from 20 to 26 February 2017 in collaboration with Universite Paris Ouest Nanterre LaDefense, and Universitat Potsdam. This Winter University was funded by L'Université franco-allemande (UFA) - Deutsch-Französische Hochschule. The theme was ‘Interactions between culture and law in Europe and India’. Around 38 students and 12 Professors from Potsdam (Germany) and Nanterre (France), participated, in addition to Indian academics, students and researchers. The Co-Directors were Prof. (Dr.) Prasannanshu, Professor, NLU Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Tobias LETTL, Professor, Universität Potsdam, and Prof. (Dr.) Stephanie Rohlfing-Dijoux, Professor, Université Paris Ouest Nanterre.

Conferences and Seminars Organized:

    1. Organized the International Seminar on the Legality and Jurisprudence of Sallekhana / Santhara/ Samadhimarana/ Prayopavesa in the Indian Traditions, at the National Law University, Delhi 26 to 27 February 2016 in collaboration with International School of Jain Studies (ISJS). Loyola Marymout University, Los Angeles, USA; University of Madras, Chennai and Teerthanker Mahavir University Moradabad were the partner universities.

    2. Was a member of the organising committee of the National Seminar on ‘Consumer Protection: New-age Challenges’' organised by National Law University Delhi in collaboration with the Centre for Consumer Studies, IIPA, New Delhi on 19-20 Feb. 2016 .

    3. Was a Coordinator for the 'National Seminar on Surrogacy: Issues and Challenges', held on 13-14 September 2014, and organized by the Institute of Chartered Management Association in collaboration with the National Law University, Delhi and the National Commission for Women, India.

    4. National Conference on ‘Legal Education in India: Challenges Ahead’ Held in NLU, Delhi 5-6 December 2009. Was one of the organizers. As (a coordinator) part of the technical session committee prepared press notes and a report of the proceedings.

    5. Was one of the organizers in the 3rd International Infrastructure and Construction Law Arbitration Moot, 2009 held in NLU, Delhi on 14-15 November 2009.

    1. Franc: Delivered lectures in March-April 2015 for Bachelor (LLB) students at University Paris Ouest Nanterre La Defense, France, on 'Communication skills for lawyers'.

    2. FRANCE: Delivered lectures in March-April 2015 for Master 1 (LLM) students in 'Communication skills for lawyers', at University Paris Ouest Nanterre La Defense, France.

    3. UK: Presented a ‘Staff Seminar on Language, Literature and Communication Skills in Legal Education’, on Thursday, 15 March 2012 at the Edinburgh Law School, University of Edinburgh, Old College, South Bridge, Edinburgh EH8 9YL.

    4. DU: Delivered lectures on 1-2 March 2017 in the Faculty of Law, Delhi University to Ph.D. scholars on the topic "Communication: Delivering a Class".

    5. ASSAM: Delivered a lecture on ‘Law and Language’ on 4 May 2015 AT NLU Assam

    6. GNLU: Delivered a lecture on ‘Law, Literature and Communication Skills’ on 16 February 2015 at the Gujrat National Law University.

    7. TNNLS: Conducted an English course workshop during 20-29 January 2014 for the B.A., L.L.B. (Hons.) first year students in the Tamil Nadu National Law School, Tiruchirappalli. During this period helped in preparing the course materials, and delivered classroom lecturers.

    8. NLUD: 8 July 2011. Delivered a talk on ‘Forensic Linguistics’ as a part of the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Advocates Training Scheme’ held at the National Law University, Delhi.

    9. Delivered the following Lectures: a) 6 February 2017 on ‘Linguistics in India & Forensic Linguistics’ and ‘Phonetic Theory of Speech’ b) 6 April 2011 c) 26 December 2012 d) 6 August 2013 e) 30 July 2014 and f) 20 May 2015 on the topic, ‘Phonetic theory of speech production’ followed by a Question-Answer session with the participants in the Workshop on Speaker Identification and Tape Authentication at the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Rohini, New Delhi. These workshops were generally attended by 25-35 Judges/Magistrates, SP/DCP/and above, SSO and above from CFSLs/FSLs/GEQDs, enforcement and Prosecution Officials, Defence Personnel, and Forensic Scientists from all over the country.

    10. Delivered a lecture on ‘Plain Language Drafting’ on 19 February 2014 to about 48 participants from foreign countries, Lok Sabha and State Legislature Secretariats in India who were attending the Twenty-ninth International Training Programme in Legislative Drafting organized by the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST) of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

    11. Delivered a lecture on Communication Skills at Karkardooma Mediation Centre as a Resource Person in an Advanced Course on ‘Effective Communication During Mediation’ for the Mediators (Judges and Advocates) on 28 August 2010.

    12. Delivered two lectures on Communication Skills to a newly recruited officer of the Delhi Higher Judicial Service on 7 August 2010, as a Resource Person for the Orientation Course held at the Karkardooma Courts Complex, Shahdra, Delhi.

    13. Delivered four lectures on Communication Skills to the newly recruited officers of the Delhi Judicial Service on 9 March 2010, as a Resource Person for the induction training that was held at the Karkardooma Courts Complex, Shahdra, Delhi.

    14. DU FDP: Delivered a lecture on 16 March 2017 in Faculty of Law, Delhi University in the Faculty Development Programme.

  1. Currently guiding a PHD thesis on ‘Reviewing Judgments and Documents to Identify Judicial Activism: An Approach of Discourse Analysis’ as a Co-supervisor since 22 December 20l7.

  2. As a Link Coordinator organized the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Between L´UNIVERSITÉ PARIS OUEST NANTERRE LA DEFENSE, France and National Law University, Delhi, India for cooperation in the interdisciplinary field of Legal Language, Communication and Literature studies in August 2015.

  3. Developed the material and curriculum for a course titled, ‘Law and Language’ for the students of B.A., LL.B., First Semester of the National Law University, Delhi.

  4. Developed the material and curriculum for a course titled, ‘Language, Communication, and Judgment Writing’ for the First-Semester students of P.G. Diploma in Judging and Court Management of the National Law University, Delhi.

  5. Developed the material and curriculum for a course titled, ‘Professional Communication Skills’ for the Second-Semester students of B.A., LL.B. of the National Law University, Delhi.

  6. Taught a course titled, ‘Language, Communication, and Judgment Writing’ to the First-Semester students of P.G. Diploma in Judging and Court Management of the National Law University, Delhi in the 2009-2010 Session. (26 December 2009-11 April 2010.)

  7. Coordinated the organization of Ms. Tereza Janackova’s nine lectures on various issues concerning law and language at the National Law University, Delhi between 10 August 2015 and 29 September2015. She works as an interpreter in asylum procedures in the Check Republic.

  8. Was a panellist in a discussion on law pertaining to end of life issues organized by the ELICIT Group that comprises of the members of Indian Academy of Neurology, Indian Society for Critical Care and Indian Palliative Care Society on 10 July 2016 at Taj Vivanta, Dwarka.
