Forensic Linguistics

Seminar Course

on

Forensic Linguistics

Has been designed, and is being delivered

by

Prof. (Dr.) Prasannanshu

at the

National Law University, Delhi

(Aug-Dec 2021)

This course aims to bring Linguistics, Natural Sciences, Forensic Science, and Law together.

Forensic linguistics is an emerging, and very important field at the intersection of Law, Language, and Natural Sciences. By way of illustrations: The contemporary approaches taken for Speaker identification are somewhat lopsided and insufficient without a clearer understanding of the field of Forensic Linguistics. The evidential value may improve if the exhibit is not only examined from a purely acoustic perspective, but dialectological and other linguistic perspectives are added.

The Nature of the Course:

It is envisaged to be a discussion and research-based seminar course where the learner participation is of prime importance. The outcomes and evaluation of the course would be based upon the creative output in the form of publishable research. The students will also be encouraged to apply their skills in aiding investigations.

Modules of the course:

1. Theoretical Foundations

2. Some Background Concepts

3. Types of Language Samples

4. Forensic Linguistics to the aid of Law

5. Applications, and Case Studies
