This year, our Sec 3 scouts had the opportunity to participate in the Scout Leadership Camp as service scouts. The camp was held in a giant horseshoe formation, consisting of around 150 scouts.
Service scouts acting as patrol mentors were responsible for conducting icebreakers to help participants get to know one another and teaching them how to build a kitchen tent, as participants had to cook every meal by themselves.
Meanwhile, service scouts acting as camp cooks prepared meals—including breakfast, lunch, and dinner—for the service scouts and camp leaders. They spent hours preparing each meal, ensuring that everyone had the energy needed to participate fully in the camp activities.
During the camp, participants were given many opportunities to lead their teams through various activities, while mentors offered advice on how to improve their leadership skills. This allowed participants to strengthen their leadership abilities, which they could later apply when taking on leadership roles in their respective schools.
Activities included pioneering, navigation, and night exploration. These activities enabled the service scouts to ensure the safety and well-being of their groups while learning to effectively distribute tasks among their patrol members.
