What are the different activities you can look forward to joining Phantom Scouts? Anything to take note of before your first CCA session with us?
This page gives you an introduction to what we do as a Scout.
On my honour,
I promise to do my best,
To do my duty to God
and to the Republic of Singapore.
To help other people, and to keep the Scout Law
A Scout is to be trusted.
A Scout is loyal.
A Scout makes friends, establishes and maintains harmonious relations.
A Scout is disciplined and considerate.
A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
Campcraft
Campcraft is an essential skill to scouting, where we can learn how to set up tents, knot tying, fire building and more. This skill would prepare us for camping, where we would be able to apply such a skill.
Backwoodsman
Have you wondered how food can be cooked during camps? Backwoodsman is a skill where you learn how to set fire, and build it using firewood (twigs and branches). During CCA sessions, we would learn this vital skill, and even get to enjoy some of the food we cooked.
Orienteering
Orienteering is a popular activity within scouting that involves navigating through places using a map and compass to find specific checkpoints. It's a combination of navigation, problem-solving, and outdoor skills that encourages teamwork and individual initiative.
Pioneering
Learning how to build structures like flagpoles, pioneering is one of Scouts' signature activities that you can look forward to.
When you first join Scouts, you will be sorted into 1 of the 8 patrols:
Kingfisher
Eagle
Dove
Stormy
Owl
Golden Plover
Swift
Woodpecker
(The pictures above are the patrol badges)
During activities like Games Day and PIC (where patrol members have a chance to interact with each other and reflect on how the day has been), we are able to interact/play with our patrol members. As a group, we will be able to earn points and compete against other patrols.
You are able to collect a wide array of badges when you join scouts, which is in the following category:
Event badge
Commemorative badge
Progress badge
Proficiency badge
Learn more about them here, in the question about what the badges are about.
The different proficiency and progress badges can also be found here.
Many opportunities would be given to members to take on leadership opportunities, whether in camps or in the unit. Some of them include the
Senior Patrol Leader
Troop Leader
Patrol Leader
Through the opportunities presented to our members, we are able to gain a better understanding on leadership and to be able to lead others better. There are leadership camps that would allow the members to improve on themselves too.
