Every secondary 2 scout has to undergo the annual Scout leadership camp (SLC) For the sec 2 scouts, first day was regarded as the worst as it required a lot of physical labour under the scorching sun to set up our tents and kitchen shed, which would be used in the days to come. The activities were very physically demanding and it took so long that by the time we had ended it was late at night and the sun had set. One of the many challenges of that day was having to cook our own meals especially at night when their only source of light was our headlights with limited battery. Additionally the fact that we had a time constraint to not only cook and eat our food, and had to travel to the main building from our tents and collect the food, wash the cooking apparatus and their mess tins (place they eat from) all in under 2 hours. The first ever meal we had to cook ourselves involved chicken and noodles was certainly no culinary masterpiece but after the gruelling days activities we were hungry and exhausted so we scarfed the meal down and hurriedly finished the days activity and showered. The sleep situation was horrible on the first night and the tent was so stuffy. The hardest part for them was that there was no solution to the problem. They couldn't open the tent doors as it would allow the bugs to enter so they gritted their teeth and eventually fell asleep albeit an uncomfortable one.
The next day started off bright and early at 5 am for most scouts, whether we were preparing their uniforms for the daily flag ceremony at 8 am, brushing their teeth, showering, everyone was busy. Before the sun even rose, everyone was busy making their portions of eggs and Milo for breakfast, the energy needed for the morning's first aid activity, that racked the scouts minds in the scenario of them having to bring their fellow injured scout to the ambulance. Afterwards, we recharged with an appetising lunch of bee hoon and chicken, as we awaited for the night walk. The night walk had a theme of murder mystery and to find clues, they had to reach the various destinations of the campsite to figure out the clues. The activity was overrall tedious but fun and lastly, to wrap up the day, they had to perform a skit for the final night's campfire and so they had to brainstorm for the days ahead and they had a patrol meeting in the lecture hall to reflect on the day.
The third day started with eggs and sausages for the mealtimes and even more rehearsal for the campfire later that day. The lunch was the highlight meal of the entire camp: chicken curry. The flavour packed curry was instantly a fan-favourite among our scouts and we finished the meal in no time. Lastly, we had to prepare for the campfire later that night and the scouts had prepared their various skits and dances for the campfire. Everyone had an enjoyable time as it was the last night at camp.
The last meal cooked by the scouts was our breakfast, consisting of roti prata and some curry sauce to go along with it. Afterwards, we removed all our tents and kitchen sheds, as we bid farewell to the place we called home for 4 days.
So if you have what it takes to endure the camp, phantom scouts would be a great option for you.
If you have what it takes to embark on such an adventure as the secondary twos, Phantom Scouts would be a great CCA option for you.
