On the 22nd of February, 12 Scouts from the Phantom Scouts Unit took part in the South Area GO Jalan Jalan hike. The hike started at the Botanic Gardens where we collected some snacks and drinks which we could consume during breaks and when we got tired.
We started hiking near the various embassies in Singapore and learnt more about their history and their purpose in Singapore. After that we hiked at many national monuments and also scouting monuments. For example, we went to the Oxley Road house of Lee Kuan Yew and also the old Scout HQ at Orchard Road.
We had a short break at Zion Food Center where we bought some snacks and replenished our energy for the second part of the hike.
After that we headed through SMU, and also had a mini tour around the campus. It was huge, the infrastructure was all highly developed and there were many amenities. We then made our way through Fort Canning Park where we headed to a mural wall for Singapore Scouts and another site of one of the various old Scout HQs.
Lastly, we made our way to City Hall where we explored places such as the Parliament, The Supreme Court and the Stanford Raffles statue. We finally made our way to the Outdoor Theatre at the Esplanade and had a debrief. It was fulfilling to see how much distance we covered in just 4 hours and also the sights we saw. But most importantly, it was the Scouting Values we practiced and honed along the way which made this experience memorable.
