Transfer of name is important as the electricity bill is one of the valid proofs for residential address and the property owner. The transfer of electricity meter is important during sale of property, transfer of ownership, transfer to legal heir in case of death of property owner or transfer for other reasons. For the owners who have not transferred the name in your electricity bill, following are list of documents and procedure for transferring electricity meter.
Documents required for transfer of Electricity Meter:
- Application for transfer of Electricity Meter: Get an application form for transfer of electricity meter from your nearest BESCOM office. Note down the serial number of your Electricity meter and current electricity meter reading while filling the application. Also mention the RR number, address where meter is installed, name and address of old and new owner and the reason for the transfer. You can download application from the BESCOM site. The list of all Service stations and the list of all officers along with their contact numbers are given in BESCOM website.
- Copy of Latest Electricity bill: You need to enclose the last paid electricity bill along with others documents for transfer of electricity meter. Ensure that you paid your current electricity bill before you apply for the same.
- Copy of Property Tax paid receipt: Enclose a copy of latest property tax paid receipt.
- Copy of sales deed: This is a crucial document as it proves that you have become the owner of the property. Enclose a copy of sales deed along with your application for transfer of Electricity Meter.
- No Objection Certificate: The NOC from consumer in whose name the electricity bill or meter exist should be obtained by apartment owner or transferee. This letter indicates that builder or previous owner has no objection for name change on electricity bill.
- Copy of Khata: Khata is an account of assessment of property owners within BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) jurisdiction. Khata is not mandatory for transfer of electricity meter. You can get electricity meter in your name without Khata.
- Indemnity form and lighting agreement: These two forms can be obtained from BESCOM office. Indemnity bond form as per Annexure-I is important in case you are not the owner of premises.
- Power Supply Agreement (PSA) form: PSA is a legal agreement between BESCOM and the consumer for providing power supply. It is also called All-Electric Home (AEH) form.
- Address Proof: Include a copy of your permanent address or any document that proves it. Also provide your PAN card number and telephone number.
