Advanced RP Rules
Stealing
Initiative RP:
Two posts of RP are required before you can 'steal' from someone.
It is ideal to include the intent to steal within the lead-up RP
Roll:
Click the dice icon > RP > Steal
Read the rules prompt
The 'victim' will have a chance to consent to the roll through the HUD
RP Outcome:
If your roll succeeds, you will automatically steal a random 1-5 copper from the target.
If you want to steal other items in their possession, you must obtain consent. (ie, two people agree that the successful thief steals a dagger that is precious to the target.)
>>> For information on stealing from a location/business see: 'Breaking In'
Breaking in
Obtain Consent:
From the IC building owner.
You do not need consent to steal generic items in buildings that are not private rentals.
Roll:
If you succeed, roleplay as normal.
If you fail, there is a six hour cool-down before you may try again.
If there are NPC guards present, click on one to activate a roll vs the guard.
Report:
A copy of the RP must be sent to the IC building owner.
Make sure to include clues that may be left behind to perpetuate further RP. (ie, the lock was broken during the break-in and list the items that are missing.)
Spying
Obtain Consent:
From the others in the RP
You do not need consent if spying is taking place in an open RP space
Preparation and Limitations:
Be aware of IC noise levels. (ie, unlikely to hear a conversation from across the room in the middle of a loud party, even with augmented hearing
You are only able to "hear" things after your initial post
Be active in the RP. Posting once does not cover you for spying on a three hour RP.
Roll:
If you are actively being sneaky (hiding in the shadows, etc), you only need to roll "SneakGrp"
RP Outcome:
If you are caught, there are likely in-character consequences.
>>> For spying in private spaces follow the steps in 'Breaking in'.
>>> For disguised spying see: 'Disguises and Glamor'
Disguises and Glamour
Roleplay vs HUD:
It is optional for you to change your HUD titler to say you are disguised or glamoured.
It is against sim rules to create a new character profile for shapeshifting or disguises.
If you see a player who has 'disguised' in their titler, make sure not to metagame that knowledge.
2. Disguise Checks:
Use 'perception' rolls paired with reaching out OOC with the 'disguised' player to attempt to "see through" the disguise or glamour.
3. RP Outcome:
If you are caught, there are likely in-character consequences.
Running a Player Created Event
Anyone can arrange private RP, but for large events, or require Faction or Guild leads to be involved, a few extra steps need to be observed:
Come up with an idea!
Write a proposal/summary:
Include requests for staff support. (decorating of a location, staff acting as NPCs, etc.)
Hand it in to any staff member:
Turn in 2 weeks prior to planned date
Staff may have suggestions on edits for your event
If your event is approved, advertise your event:
Do not need Staff to advertise
You can post in #group-biz-ads-events on Discord and the OS IC group in SL.
Run your event!
Potions
Potion Types:
Focus (Adds +2 to Attack roll)
Defense (Adds +2 to Defense roll)
Subtlety (Adds +2 Sneak Roll)
Sight (Adds +2 to Perception Roll)
Rules:
Durations:
Focus and Defense potions will last for 12 hours of Real World time
Subtlety and Sight Potions will last 72 Hours
Potions are usually sold by Faction Leaders, but can also be obtained by other players or sometimes earned at events.
Potions must be used prior to initiative rolls.
Only one potion may be active at a time:
Durations continue counting down even if the player is offline.
Using a second potion of the same type will only refresh the timer, not extend the duration or increase the effect.
Using a second potion of a different type is not allowed.
Curses, Hexes, Bounties, Etc.
Obtain permission:
For any roleplay that involves another player's character (just as much as their business!), consent is not only common courtesy, but also is required by Origins of Sin.
Using another character's name, lying about a character, and other non-modifying behaviour is permissible without prior consent. However, any situation that has a large audience or far reach which can lead to serious consequences for another's character or promote violent/aggressive RP towards another should be discussed first. This would typically be a public event such as a play, in-character publicly written gossip columns, or group leads inciting their players (does not include bounties).
Consent is Key!
Destruction
Obtain permission:
For minor destruction (breaking a window, defacing a wall, kicking down a door) obtain OOC permission from the IC building owner.
For widespread or major destruction, obtain OOC permission from the Faction Leader of the area the destruction will be taking place in addition to the IC building owner.
Roll:
If there are NPC guards present, click on one to activate a roll vs the guard.
If you succeed, roleplay as normal.
If you fail, there is a six hour cool down before you may try again.
Report:
A copy of the RP must be sent to the person you obtained consent from.
Make sure to include clues that may be left behind to perpetuate further RP. (ie, traces of blood left on shattered glass when a window was broken)
Deer Skulls
Buildings with a Deer Skull are available to all players. If one is in use, we ask players be mindful and respectful of the scenes by asking to join before posting in. Deer Skulls can't be claimed ooc.
