Organ Hymn Arrangement
Lesson 8
Lesson 8
Choose and learn one piece of organ music of your choice from the one following options:
The goal would be to prepare this piece to be played in a sacrament meeting and/or other event.
Practice learning your piece on the organ by using a clear 8' flute in the manuals (Gedeckt, Rohrflote, Stopped Flute, or Chimney Flute) and flutes 16 and 8 in the pedals.
Break up your piece into smaller sections for learning (3 measures or so at a time) and follow the instructions as laid out below in order to learn this piece well. ALWAYS practice slowly enough to stay in control and use a metronome, slowly inching up the tempo until you can comfortably play in the tempo range as indicated at the beginning of the arrangement. Then move on to the next 3 measures or so and repeat the same process.
Master single-unit combinations up to tempo:
1. right hand
2. left hand
3. pedal
Master two-unit combinations up to tempo:
4. Left hand and pedal
5. Right hand and pedal
6. Right hand and left hand
Master all three units up to tempo:
7. Right hand, left hand, and pedal
Once you have learned the entire piece, create a registration plan appropriate for the piece.
